church circles met Monday and
Tuesday.
Circle One met with Mrs. C. K.
Griggs at ie church. Mrs. ('. A.
Long led the devotional. The
lesson was led by Mrs. I. S.
F^jht, assisted by Mrs. C. I).
Flesher ana Mrs. Griggs. A let-
ter from a missionary in Africa
in relation to the study was read
by Mrs. E. J. Stewart. Cokes and
sandwiches were served.
Circle Two, meeting yesterday
with Mrs. .loe Bowen, heard a
program on Africa lod by Mrs.
A. G. Lee. Mrs. Bowen assisted
in the program. Mrs. John Sim-
mons led the devotional. Tuna
f *1 sandwiches, cheese balls
and frosted cokes were refresh-
ments.
Circle Four met Monday at
the church with Mrs. I). D. nix-
on as hostess. Mrs. A. S. Kend-
rick led the opening prayer, Mrs.
Dixon presided. Mrs. K. M. Camp
and Mrs A. R. Norred taught the
lesson. Mrs. Kay Boothe gave
the devotional. Ice cream and
cake were served.

mercial subjects and as assistant
in the office.

School May 20;
Plans Set Monday
Plans for beginning a vaca-
tion Bible school May were
completed Tuesday morning at
a teachers meeting of the child-
ren's department at the First
Methodist church.
Details were worked out for
the annual summer Bible school
held immediately following the
close of school.
Mrs. Ray Boothe loil the Bible
study.
After business and a program
the teachers met in department-
al section to map programs.
Present were Mines. T. P.
Johnson, R. li. Palmer, Ray
Boothe. John Simmons, R. K.
Amos, .1. ('. Morris, Carl Ander-
son. H. B. Melton. Morris McKl-
reath and Alvin Kendrick.
Mother's Day May 12
WASHINGTON (DIM — Pre-
sident Truman has proclaimed
Sunday, May 12th as Mother's
Day and asked that flags be dis-
played in honor of the nation's
mothers.
The chief executive said that
it is especially appropriate this
year that we express the debt
of gratitude which each of us
owes to his own mother, and
which we all owe to the mothers
of America.

Found In West Texas
PKCOS (CP) — Deep in the
heart <>f Texas — about 35 miles
north of a town called Pecos —
is a spot that has "ill the mak-
ings of a thriving community.
On a recent inspection tour, a
man who sees to it that commu-
nities get adequate railroad fa-
cilities. came upon a site known
as "Mason Spur." The only sign
nf habitation was a trapper's
shack and a substation for a gas
line.

road. a good dirt road leading to
a state highway, a telephone
line, a Western Union line, a

Will Keep McMurry
College Day, May 5
ABILENE — Sweetwater
First and Highland Heights
Methodist churches will be
among the ,'SOO or more in the
Northwest Texas conference to
observe McMurry College day,
Sunday.
A goal of $20,000 has been set ,
for the amount to be contribu-
ted by the Methodists of this
conference, the money to go to
McMurry College maintenance
fund. An annual observance,
each church has been given a
quota in proportion to its total
membership.
"I need not stress tne fact that
that the tuition paid by students
in any college represents about
40 percent of the total needed
to maintain the school," Dr.
Harold G. Cooke, McMurry pre-
sident, said. "The remainder
must come, In the case of the
church schools, from friends a'nd
believers in the church-related
type of education.
MeMurry's present student en-
rollment is from 66 Texas coun-
ties, and nine other states. More
than 110 ex-servicemen are now
in McMurry College.
Methodist churches of this
county participating in the Mc-
Murry day program are: Black-
well, Deck, Dorn, Roscoe, High-
land.

First Reunion For
Family In 12 Years
Reunited for the first time in
12 years, Mrs. Ida Robbins had
all of her sons and daughters I
and their families together re-
cently. They gathered in the
home of Mrs. It. L. Pittman. who
lives north of Sweetwater.
A buffet luncheon was served
at the noon hour. An old-fash-
lotied Easter egg hunt was ar-
ranged for the children during
the afternoon and adults spent
the entire evening taking pic-
tures and recalling events of
days gone by.
Present were Mrs. Ida Rob-
bins, Sweetwater, her children,
Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Pittman and
daughter. Wanda, Sweetwater,
Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Robbins. San
Antonio; Mr. ami Mrs. J. W. Rob-
bins and daughter, Janette, of
Liberty; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Neel and son. Joe, of Sweetwat-
er; Shirley Robbins and grand-
daughter, Robbie Gene, Big
Spring; Mr. and Mrs. Charles O.
Grigson, Oakland, Calif., and Mr.
and Mrs. Birt G. Deel, Albuquer-
que, N. M.
Mrs. O. B. Eidson of Goldth-
waite, sister of Mrs. Ida Robbins, ]
