Complimenting the bride, a
formal gilt tea was given Thurs-
day by a group of friends at the
home of Mrs. C. R. Simmons. Co-
hosting tile fete were Mrs. Sim-
mons. Mrs Dill Pace. Mrs. Frank
Walton and Mrs Ralph Hunter.
Approximately T.'i guests called.
Music was given by Joy Pace
a 11 d Chariesa Bledsoes, ac-
cordion pupils of Mrs. H W.
Broughton, preseting several ac-
cordion numbers. Emogene Wal-
ton and Shirley Whitaker played
appropriate recorded music.
In the receiving line were
Mrs. Karl Whitaker. mother of
the honoree. Miss Whitaker. Mrs.
J. C. Rich, mother of the groom.
Mrs. Simmons greeted guests at
the door.
In the house party were Mines.
Garland Vinson. A T. Bruce,
Frank Walton, Ralph Hunter,
Dill Pace, Tom Donahue, a n d
MariellQn Pepper, Dorothye Pel-
kins, Marette Honey. Joan Dyar,
Mary lla L'llom, Cleo Duncan,
Roxie Maxwell. Miss Dyar was at
the registry.
Decorations were all-white.
Shasta daisies in a large, oval,
i tit-glass bowl centered the lace-
laid table. White tapers in can-
delabra were used on the table
and mantle. Pineapple sherbert
punch was poured from a crystal
service, and served with cake.
Joan Dyar hosted a rehearsal
dinner for the bridal party Fri-
day night with a dinner in the
Charles Dyar backyard.

Rufus F. Walker
Named Assistant
To McMurry Head
Rufus F. Walker, 705 East
Twelfth, has been elected as as-
sistant to Dr. Harold G. Cooke,
president of McMurrv College,
Abilene, in regard to finance.
He will be director of the liv-
ing endowment program, and
travel throughout West Texas
and New Mexico in the interest
of McMurrv.
Walker came to Sweetwater
four years ago as supervising
principal at the five elementary
schools, including Mexican and
Negro schools. Previously he
served as superintendent of
schools at Highland.
He received his BA degree
from the College of the Ozarks
at Clarksville, Ar„ and his MA
at Hardin-Simmons University,
Abilene. He is doing work on
his doctor of education degree
from the University of Texas.
While in Sweetwater, Walker
was a Rotarian. a member of the
Sweetwater club, and on t h e
board of stewards of*the First
Methodist church. He is a life
member of the National Educa-
tional Association.
He assumed his duties last
Sunday and he will lie joined in
Abilene by his wife, who has
been teaching junior English in
Sweetwater high school, and his
son, Rufus. jr.. as soon as hous-
ing is found.
Walker will speak at the 11
o'clock service this morning of
St. Void's Methodist church, Abi-
lene.
Three Men Enlist
Three from Ibis vicinity have
enlisted at the local recruiting
station.
They are Don Ray Rollins, son
of Mr. and Mrs. (' 6. Rollins. Ro-
tan: Raymond Jackson Bray, son
of Mr. and Mrs. R J Bray. Sr.,

Coiirtenev. son of Mr. and Mrs.

All enlisted for is months. This
is their first enlistments.
Wanda Goodman, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Goodman
of Tucson, Arizona, and former-
ly of Sweetwater, became the
bride of Roe Freeman of Asper-
mont here Wednesday in inform-
al nuptials.
The single ring ceremony was
read by Evangelist F. B. Shep-
herd of the Church of Christ at
the ('. F. Rhoten home.
The bride wore a two-piece
suit of yellow with white acces-
sories Her corsage was of white
gardenias.
A group of close friends and
relatives attended the vows.
Among wedding guests was her
father, Mr. Goodman, and the
groom's sister and brother.
Following the ceremony, an
informal reception was held for
the couple and wedding guests.
Punch and cake were served.
Mrs. Freeman lived in Sweet-
water for many years and at-
tended Sweetwater schools.
Mr. Freeman recently receiv-
ed a discharge from the service.

Eliasville Church
Revival Meeting
Rev. Clifford \V. Williams pas-
tor of the First Presbyterian
church, is conducting an evang-
elistic meeting in Eliasville.
This is an annual union meet-
ing of both the Presbyterian and
Methodist churches. It is the
second time the Sweetwater
pastor has ben asked to hold this
series of services. Rev. Mr. Wil-
liams plans to return to Sweet-
water .July 20.
Rev. Jack ('. Ramsay, newly
ordained pastor of the First Pres-
byterian church, Roscoe, and
pastor of the Westminster Chap-
el and Divide, will preach in the
Presbyterian church. Sweetwat-
er, at morning services. The ser-
vice will be broadcast.
Rev. Nelson R. Hawkins, presi-
dent of the Presbyterian Home
and School for Orphans, located
at. Itasca, will conduct the even-]
ing worship tonight, assisted by j

the Home.
