Bobby Dean Spente And Bride
Visit Relatives In Blackwell
After a wedding trip visit with
his relatives in Blackwell, Mr.
and Mrs. Bobby Dean Spence are
at home in Charleston, South Caro-
lina, whore Mr. Spence Is a hospi-
tal corpsman with the United
States Navy.
Before their marriage in the
First Baptist Church of Lindale,
Ga„ on November 30, Mrs. Spence
was Miss LaVonne Garrett, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. V. F. Garrett
of Lindale, Ga. Mr. Spence is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Q. Spence
of Blackwell.
From Blackwell
Gladioluses and garden flowers
decoratcd the church for the cere-
mony. which was witnessed by the
families and a few close friends.
The Rev. B. L. Bond officiated.
Among those attending from out of
town were the bridegroom's par-
ents from Blackwell.

Duke, sister of the bride, sang "I
Love You Truly." Mrs. Duke was
also matron of honor, wearing a
light blue two-piece faille suit with
seed pearl trim and black velvet
hat. Other accessories were also in
black. Delmer Russell of Brady
was best man.
Light Blue
The bride wore a light blue wool
two-piece suit trimmed with navy
blue velvet and rhinestones. The
suit was worn with a long-sleeved
white silk blouse trimmed in lace.
Her navy blue hat was trimmed in
velvet, her opera pumps were navy
blue, her bag and gloves were
white.
Mrs. Spence finished ihgh school
in Lindal, where she was a mem-
ber of the choral club. Mr. Spence
finished Blackwell High School
in 1947 and attended John
Tarleton State College and Abilene
Christian College before going into
service.

Billy Kelly was one of three
band members from Newman High
school to be selected as candidates
for the all-State band which meets
in Galveston in February. Kelly
was selected at the region two try-
outs in Abilene last Saturday. In a
news item in The Reporter Mon-
day the name was erroneously
shown as Betty Kelly.
McDonald-Hagar American Leg-
ion Post here will have a Christ-
mas party for members at its so-
cial session tonight at the Legion
home in City Park at 7:30, Com-
mander W. R. Penich announced.
Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Kirk of Gor-
man retuned home Tuesday after
a visit here in the homes of their
sons, James O. Kirk and Weldon
Kirk.

training at San Diego recently and
arrived Sunday to spend a 14-day
leave with his parents here. He

spending the holidays with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Bratcher

Christmas Party Held Saturday By
Nolan Home Demonstration Council
Christmas party of the Nolan
County HD Council was held Sat-
urday afternoon in the Rose Room
with Mrs. Otto Martin in charge.
Carol singing was led by Mrs.
Frank Cleckler. Mrs. A. J. Marth
was at the piano.
The legend of the Christmas can-
dles was given by Mrs. Charlie
Lewis, who also gave some skits
on "How Times Have Changed."

Friends here have learned of the
marriage of Victor L. Jones of Bo-
koshe, Okla., formerly of Maryneal
to Mrs. Peggy Brown, of that place
on Fridav. December 12, the cere-
mony taking place in Fort Smith,
Ark.
Mr. Jones is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. B. Jones of Bokoshe, for-
merly of Maryneal. He ranched at
Maryneal and was well-known in
Sweetwater. Mrs. E. P. Alexander
of Sweetwater is his aunt. His
bride is on the nursing staff of
the city hospital at Poteau, Okla.

Zeta Kappa Party
The Vince Cornoyer home, 1611
San Carlos, was the setting for the
Chirstmas party of Beta Kappa
Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi, on Mon-
day evening.
The living room was lighted by
candles and the Christmas tree
lights. Little Santa Clauses made
of red apples and marshmallows
were on the coffee table and were
given as plate favors.
Christmas plans for Margaret,
who has been adopted at Girlstown
by the chapter, were discussed.
Plans were made for a bridge tour-
nament and style show in Febru-
ary.
Mrs. R. L. Dalby, an honorary
member of Beta Sigma Phi, gave a
Christmas story, "Candle In The
Forest," which tells of how a re-
turned war veteran and his family
made the most of Christmas on
small finances.
After the program, gifts were
exchanged by members. A bathinet
was presented to Mrs. Parker Wet-
sel, president.
Pecan pie and coffee were serv-
ed to Mmes. Wetsel, Cornoyer, Ray
Shannon, Earl Vandervoort Jr.,
John McKay, Bill Ellis, Henry
Bennett, Ben Brock, Dick Grell-
ner, Louis Brooks, Keith Stewart,
Arnold Ford, Warden Boswell, L.
B. Allen, Dalby and George Leon-
ard; Misses Bobbie Morrow and
Louise Bollinger.

Monday admissions to Sweetwa-
ter Hospital included Anderson

za and baby, Mrs. Carroll Miles,
Mrs. Red Baize, Audry Dickens,
and Mrs. Alberta Bineza and baby.
Young Medical Center
No admissions and no dismis-
sals were reported for Monday at
Young Medical Center.

Playlet
Mrs. Weller directed a playlet
in a setting of Christmas tree,
candles, poinsettias, and holly.
The title was a "A Handmaid of
the Lord." Mrs. McDonald was
narrator. Miss Earlene Holcomb
played the part of Elizabeth, the
Rev. Dwight A. Sharpe the part of
Zacharias, Mrs. Bess Robinson the
part of Hannah, and Nancy Price
the part of Mary.
Fruit cake, whipped cream, nuts,
and coffee were served from the
dining table, which was laid with a
pastel green banquet cloth and cen-
tered with six large red candles
banked with holly, Christmas balls,
pine cones, and silver lemon leav-
es.
Mrs. J. C. Jenkins was at the
silver coffee service. Plate favors
were sprigs of holly tied with red
ribbon.
Twenty-seven members were
present and many others sent
gifts of food and offerings for the
Joy Gifts.
FATALLY WOUNDED
PALACIOS, Tex., Dec. 16—UP—
Ernest Randolph Hogg, 13, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hogg, of
Bay City, was fatally wounded
Sunday when a shotgun his cousin,
Roy Lee Hogg, 10, was handing
him accidentally discharged.
The accident occurred here at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. B.
Hogg, the two boys' grandparents,
who were away at church at the
time.
WHITE CHRISTMAS
WATSONVILLE, Calif., Dec. 16
—UP—The Chamber of Commerce
has decided that residents of Wat-
sonville will have a White Christ-
mas whether it snows or not.
A fleet of blowing machines,
used to spray ice crystals over let-
tuce before shipping, will spread
four inches of the white stuff over
the city park Christmas Day so the
kids can throw a few snowballs.
About 60 per cent of all U. S. vis-
itors to Canada cross the border at
Ontario.
