Let's Get the "Home Town" Idea in Our Heads
. Why buy in Mineola if we live in Mineola?
Would you like to see this a better town, with
more life, enterprise and business? Would you
like to see more work going on here? And would
you like it better if you could walk into Mineola
stores and find in them bigger and fresher and
more varied stocks of everything?
All this could be—if the bulk of the money
that goes to the mail order concerns stayed in
Mineola. If you don't believe it, look into the
matter and see how many dollars leave Mineola
in one month for the so-called bargains that the
mail order people picture in their catalogues. And
the* imagine what that much money spent here
would add to the town's business!
Of course you have a personal right to buy
where you please. \ ou don t have to buy here.
You are a free man in a free country. All of
which is true, in a sense. But it is equally true
true that we are mutually dependent one upon
another. That which may be legal, per se, may
not be necessarily expedient. It may be within
your right, but at the same time not be for the
best interest of all concerned, yourself included
in the number.
When your house burns and you need help,
does any one ever hear of Sawbuck & Co. making
^ contribution ? Or Helles, Bess and Co. I t ou
may canvass the merchants in Mineola and gel
results but the catalogue house wouldn't give you
as much barb wire as you could eat.
The same way about your churches and your
schools. Who keeps them up? The Philamayork
I Bargain House? Not so you can tell it.
And when you have something to sell do you
to any of these "golden pheasants" to sell or

Recently an orphanage in a Texas vi' v refused
a donation by the Klan, and o her instances are
reported.
Over at Marshall th • oiher day the Klan left
v fifty dollars at the office of Ihe Morning News
w'ih a request that the money be delivered to a
widow and orphan children.
Discussing the donation the News make- tie.
follow i fig timely observations:
"It appears from an article in the Messenger
of yesterday that the Ku Klux Klan has an or
ganization in [Marshall. Fifty dollars was left at
the Messenger office to be given to a very de-
serving woman and her children. The object m
leaving it at the newspaper office was that the
gift should be given publicity.
There will be none to condemn this first act
of the Klan in Marshall. Neither will any oik
condemn the Elks Lodge for having given many
times fifty dollars this year to relieve want and
brighten the lives of those who are under the
shadow. Neither will any one condemn the \.

something doing in this line. The Monitor mana-
