New Homes Being
Built In Mineola
The city of Mineola is building
houses faster than is has ever
built before and the demand Is
greater than ever before. New
people are ctfnfii^irfj£ toi*n- every
day looking for homes Snd many
carpenters are coming in daily
looking for work. As a result,
many houses are being erected
and these carpenters are being put
to work.
One pretty home now under con
struction is that of Dr. Puckett
who will move here from Haines-
ville. He is building a large cot-
tage beside Rufus Bailey's home
and behind Dr. Reitch's home.
Another home recently completed
is the one now occupied by Dr.
Red. It is located in the same
section as is Dr. Puckett's home
and is across the street from
that home.
Mr. Will Cage has been building
several houses recently. He has
just finished one in his addition.
It is a pretty place. Mr. Pritchett
has just completed an airplane
bungalow on Pacific Street and it
is being occupied by Mr. Corry,
the government tick eradicator.
Mr. Barney Brooks is completing
a cottage beside his present home
and several other houses are be-
ing built at present.
There is a great need of houses
in Mineola and it is rumored that
a large building company from
Dallas has signified it intention
of coming here and to construct
houses.

Work At Rail
Road Terminal
Checked By Rain
Though the construction of the -
railroad terminal West of Mineola
has been progressing fast since
last week and a large number of
men have been kept busy laying t
tracks and building forms for con-
crete pouring, the work was halted
temporarily this week on account
of the heavy rains. The rains of
Wednesday, a regular downpour,
will delay the work for several
days perhaps, particularly on the
dirt moving and excavation.
The building of the office build-
ing and other smaller buildings
however is progressing rapidly.
Many small structures have al-
ready been erected. The forms
for the cement work have been
built and are ready for place-
ment. The largest amount of -
this work has been done for the
Engine House which will measure
100 x 300 feet and this building
will be of brick and concrete.
, The laying of the "Y" tracks
is in progress. This "Y" will be t
used additionally for the connec-
tion of the M. K. & T. Railroad
from Greenville to Mineola so that
the Katy trains may enter Min-
eola over the T&P tracks from the
terminal.
There are now 5 tracks laid
from Mack's Switch down to and \
shortly beyond the engine house.
These tracks measure in total,
slightly more than five miles.
There will be some ten more miles
of trackage laid besides this five
mile stretch.
Christmas In
Mineola To Be
Old Santa Ge
Many Letters
This week several letters came
to The Monitor for Santa Claus
and these are being published
and are being sent on to him so
that he can get them in time
to arrange to bring what the
boys and girls are asking for. Old
Santa Cluas has notified this of-
fice that it is only a short time
until Christmas and that he has
his plans to get here for certain
on the Big Night, with one of the
biggest sacks full he ever had. He
wanted to know what boys and
girls here had been good during
the year.
All children who want to write
him send letters to The Monitor.
Make them as brief as possible so
that we may have room to publish
them, and write as plainly as pos-
sible.
Following are the letters which
The Monitor received this week.
Dear Santa :-
We are two little sisters, six
and three years of age. We would
like to have a baby doll, doll bug-
gy, and a little set cf dishes. Ap-
ples, oranges, and nuts of all i
kinds. Please be good to all other!
little girls and boys.
Annie Lee and Margrett Withrow.
Dear Santa:-
I am a little boy five years old.
Will you please bring me a truck,
train and a sand puller and a bus.
But don't forget Mother and Dad
and my small baby brother. He
is almost three months old and
is named Jimmy Lee. Please don't
forget him. Douglass Ingram.
Dear Santa Claus :-
I want you to bring me a pair of
boots, an air gun, a pony and some
nuts and candy. With love,
Wm. Harry Ingram.
Dear Santa Claus :-
Please think of me and bring
me a doll, a little broom, some i
dishes, a little wagon, and some
candy, apples, oranges and nuts.
And don't forget my little broth-
er. He is a little fellow but bring
him something.
Jimmye Hammond,
Mineola, Route 3.
Proclamation
Hear ye' All the citizens of Mineola and
the surrounding trade territory. By the
authority vested in me as Mayor of Mineola,
Texas, I do hereby issue this Proclamation:
PEACE ON EARTH, GOOD WILL TO
ALL MEN, let the son of the shepherds on
the hills of Bethlehem when CHRIST WAS
BORN, ring out again and that there may be
no home saddened by lack of provisions, let
all good people everywhere in all the country
round about get together and plan for a
CHRISTMAS TREE, a good program of
music and entertainment and a full basket
for all that are not able to buy same for their
CHRISTMAS DINNER. Then may we all
enjoy peace and contentment on this occa-
sion and thruout the year.
Witness my hand and seal of office this
12th day of December A. D. 1928.
John S. McReynolds, Mayor.
Mrs. Russell Adrian has been
been ill for the past few days.
Unusual efforts are being made
this week for the creation of much
Christmas cheer and decoration of
this city for the Holidays. Ar-
rangements have been to
erect the giant Christmas tree in
the center of the business section
of town and for the lighting of
it. The tree was to have been
placed by Wednesday of this week
but the heavy rains prevented this"
However, the tree will be brought
to town the first of next week ac-
cording to H. O. Rogers, chair-
man of the Christmas Festivities
in Mineola for this year. Mr.
Rogers stated that a committee
had been selected to select the
tree and to bring it to the city
and another committee had been
chosen to have the tree lighted
and to attend to the financial
end of the undertaking.
The lighting scheme for the
tree and the streets this year will
be increased over last year. The
tree, though not as large will con-
tain in proportion to the size as
many lights as the one last year
while the hundreds of colored
lights which now decorate the
streets will remain in tact, thus
rendering a beautiful setting for
the pretty tree.
Santa Claus will appear at the'
tree, it wa sstated, on Christmas
Eve, and there will be a musical
program given at the Christmas
ceremonies to be conducted at the
tree.
The Boy Scouts have offered
to bring into town a tree for each
business concern that desires one
and that will decorate it with
colored lights in front of their
buildings. Requests for trees
should be left at the Mineola State
Bank, at the Monitor office or
with the Scout Master, C. E.
Nesbitt.
The chairman, Mr. Rogers, stat-
ed that all requests for aid at
Christmas time should be turned
in to any of the ministers of the
city, The Monitor or to him at
the Mineola State Bank.
The Mayor made his annual of-
ficial proclomation this week for
the united observance of Christ-
mas in Mineola and it appears on
the front page of this issue of
The Monitor.
