A colored child named Willis Williams
fell in a well yesterday evening and was not
discovered until an hour after when he was
taken out dead. A corners' jury was held
this morning and gave in a verdict of death
by accidental strangulation. A groat deal
of inconvenience is being caused the town
by the lack of freight cars on the Central.
Cotton is piled up everywhere awaiting
shipment. The ladies of the town are
making extensive preparations for the sheet
and pillow case ball; it promises to be an ole-
gant all'air. Col. Mills left for Washing-
ton D. G yestorday where he will join his
familv and await the opening of congress.
The telephone in this town is an immense
success and many of our business men are
talkiog of erecting lines from their stores to
their homes. Summer weather to-d v 78
in the shade. The compress is doing a
good buiiness. Tagliapetra's Italian opera
company 60 performers have bean secured
by our enterprising opera house managers.
They will appear here In a few weeks.
