The following is from the Ht. I.ouis I!e-

ever.' At least so thought the good people
of Dallas Texas when one inornini; about
three weeks ago they woke up ami discov-
ered that one of their most respectable and
inltuemial merchants nimied A. A. Pear-
son had eloped with a young; lady named
Jliss Edna Uradley leaving his family and
business to take care of themselves. For a
long time certain trim spinsters of the
godly town of Dallas have pointed out with
wise nods the intimacy that appeared
to exist between .Miss Jiradley ami
her employer Allen Pearson. .she

most suitable inducements for immigration.
Having heard of the good name and re-
ligious character that tins citv bears they
decided to come here and endeavor to hide
themselves from the view of their ihiiais-
itive friends in Dallas.
Having decided Ibis they took the lirst
northern-bound train and arrived in this
city last Friday. The next point was where
to go. Pearson had been in M. Louis be-
fore and knew the character of its hotels.
H thought the best way toevado suspicion
was to get into the most tjuiet und orderly
of them. With this end in view he escor-
ted his inamorata to Itanium's hotel and
with a nourish of the pen he regis-
tered as Allen A. Peterson and wife. Cin-
cinnati. Ohio. The clerk assigned them
room No. '-' to which they iiiicklv re-
treated and during their stay they moved
not beyond its threshold. The conple
stayed from Friday until Monday and was
to all appearance very respectable very
modest und very polite in fact such a pair
os one meets with every day a common-
place young woman and her" husband A
keen observer however would discover
that when they made their appearance in
public furtive glances wero cast about
and all disguise possiblo put on.
On Monday the gallant gentleman
from Texas began to seriously dis-
cuss with himself whether he hud not
better desert his present paramour as he did
his wife. Xheinore he thought over the mat-
ter the more he was inclined to believe it
was the best thing to do .So'musteriiig up

Pretty Miss Uradley answered bv doing

A reporter of the 11irld met Colonel
Iloudinot of the Cherokee Ration yester
day and had a talk with him concerning
the Indian Territory and the railroad enter
prises affecting it and the State of Texas
I see Colonel that some Indian delegates
in Washington are making a furious tight
against the right-of-way granted by the
Choctaw Council to the St. Louis & San
Francisco Railroad; do you think they will
succeed in defeating it? '

What is the ground ot complaint bv the
parties who are iryuig 10 ueieut tne measure

"They allege as I understand it that the
Dill was not passed ny a majority vote

present at the Choctaw Council
that the bill passed the Lower
House by a majority ol two or three; and
that in the ttenato the vote stood seven
against the hill and eight for it. It might
have been some other number but there
was one majority in favor of the bill with-
out the vote of the presiding otllcer; this
oflicor can only vote when there is 11 tie;
he voted against the hill thereby making
a tie. and then cast his constitutional vote
to break the tic thereby voting twice on the
same bill."
"Are the Cherokee delegates assisting to
defeat the grant?"
"Yes: they are too much given to med-
dling with oilier people's all'airs; this right-of-way
doesn't touch an acre of land on any
but the Choctaw reservation; it is no busi-
ness of the Chemkecs and they ought to be
ashamed of their impertinent i'nterlerence."

questioned as to how it happened she
slated that a man 11 stranger to her had

it. Tlie supposition is that iu a fit of men-

her own life. The wound though severe is
not considered dangerous.
