Victokia 11. C Nov. 12. Tho United
Stales revenue cutter Cnrwin which has
arrived Irom the north brings particulars
of a lulit with Indian and the destruction
ol a village. The village destroyed was lo-
omed at (.laehinu on the Alaskan coast.
Tho tribe had captured and held two white
men. and Ihe steam launch Warsaw had
born sent out with a tug to tow the launch
both being provided with jal liiitf giius.
K-ring commenced when an explosion oc-
curred and the Indian chief who was sit-
ting on board Ihe launch was killed. The
tribe surrounded and captured tho launch
with two white men and nearly succeeded
in fretting possession of the till;. Tho latter
however (tot away and aleuiued to tiitka.
The Corwin with tho captain ami
sixty sailors and mariuui was
dispatched to (iachtna. Captain Merriam
demanded the surrender ol the launch and
prisoners which tho Indians refund to do.
Next morning a Bailing gun was placed in
an Indian canoe on the beach. A force
was afterwards landed mid destroyed nil
the canoes. The Indians lied to the woods
the villuiro was shelled and huts that re-
mained standing after the (.hulling were
looted and burned. Several Indians who
ventured out of tho shelter of tho woods
were killed. This severe lesson wus re-
quired as the tribo had been guilty of cru-
elly toward the whites. Hearing while at
Alaska that Ihe Indians had taken posses-
sion of one of the American fur-trading
company's Millions and held all employes
prisoners Commander Ilcnly went to their
chief and the Indians being very liotile
shelled the villiigu released all ihe men
held asprlMonnrs.atiilthe village was totally
destroyed and two chiefs made prisoners.
