to make a statemont to the court and
to follow that by a matter that ex-
plains itself. I will tell what trans-
pired between four men two of whom
were frtouds of mine concealed for a
purpose. 1 havo iu my pocket 2500
$2000 in one hundred dollar bills and a
check for $i00 that was given to m e
by au agent of the court-house parties
so itateu for the blue prints which I
had In my possession. I want those
gentlemen to know and I want the
court and tho world to know that
Hague and Coldwoll aro cot
for Bale. The additional
promise wag made that
Hague and Coldwell should reeoivo
live $1000 bonds as soon as tho paper
could bo fixed up. This matter was
arranged yesterday. 1 believe that I
was right in this case all tho time I
never faltorod now I know it. I
shall not proceod auy further In this
case. It occurs to mo that tho mattor
is about settlod. Theso bills and this
check wero givou to me by a man
whoso namo 1 am pledged not to di-

were jreseut at tho time. They
wore called into a room and con-
cealed for thRt purjiose and
the monoy was brought to my
house and paid to me for the
purpose that I state. Tho additional
$5000 was to be paid as soon as the
contract could bo preparod. Now hero
are $2000 that I waut to donate to tho
County of til Paso for oharitablo pur-
poses." By this time tho excitement
of the audience had reached such a
pitch that tho inside of tho bur was
crowded and thoeo outsido were
standing on tho bunches. His an-
nouncement ol tho use to which ho
dodicatod tho money was met with
a storm of wild and irrepressible
cheering such as has seldom been
heard in til Paso. Continuing he said :
"The check I shall rotaln: I want to
state limber to tlio court

man (Judge Davisl has beeu
deceivoa. He has felt It I boliove be-
fore; ho knows It tibe tho cano now.
I think he has been wronged and out-
raged as no lawyer ought to bo und by
mou who pretonded to bo his frjoudH.
He U an honest man and he has can-
ducted this caso like a gentleman aud
with his usual ability. He has boen

When Mr. Ilpgue had concludod tho
cheering was if possible more enthu-
siastic tnim before i n the midst of it
all however Mr. Campbell could be
lieunl loudly clomanding the namo of
the man who bad presonted the bribe
but without any further result than to
draw from Mr. Coldwoll tho assertion
that it was not Mr. Campbell.
