City Building Notes
(By J. A. A.)
When capital sens the smoke
pouring from the many hfjjh
smoke stacks he promptly pulls
out his bank roll.
If you wait until you see
what the other fellow ia going
to do you won't get any-
where. If you can't interest your
home people in the city don't
expect outsiders to take notice.
Look after the little enterprises-the
large ones usually
look after themselves.
It isn't always the skyscraper
that makes the city a factory
with a big pay roll will do twice
the good.
I'e on friendly terms with
your competitor even if you ex-
pect him to steal a march on you
the next day.
To abuse an investor is to lose
him.
He sure you have something
to talk about when you boost
your city.
Roosting and boasting are two
different things hut both may
r used to advantage in building
a city.
The Railroad Commission is
facing some of the most serious
problems in the railroad history
of the state. For the first time
in half a century railroad con-
struction is practically at a
standstill in Texas although we
are suffering for 10000 miles
more of railroad. The crop re-
ports indicate that we will have
an unusally heavy tonnaire this
year and the railroads are known
to be short of facilities to move
abnormal traffic and they are
not financially able to purchase
the needed equipments. The
work of the Railroad Commission
has heretofore been confined
largely to the regulation of rates
and service but larger respon-
sibilities now confront the Com-
mission and it will require
skillful constructive work on
their part to build up the ex-
isting lines to a point where
they can give adequate service
and to place new projects on a
basis where their securities can
be marketed.

on a show for the benefit of the
Lubbock Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment at their new airdome on
the north side of the square on
the night of May 21th. The ad-
mission will be 10 cents. The
fire company is in great need
of better equipment ar.d the
proceeds of this show will be ap-
plied to the purchase of articles
they need for better service.
