While the Democratic Convention
was seemingly dead locked at Balti-
more the antl Wilson people be-
came very solicitous for somes ort
of a harmonious compromise or any
thing else to head the sentiment a-
way from Wilson..
Col. R. M. Johnson was greatly
per turbed over the conditions and
he thought he had struck a happy
Idea. He approached the Texas dele-
gation which had stood like a stone
wall for Wilson from the start and
suggested Culberson as a suitable
dark horse.
The Texaa delegation epi"
suggestion and no delegate among
the forty Texans was more positive
than Culberson In refusing to en-
tertain the thought. Col. Johnston
found as did several others of the
old regime that he had already had
his day.
