Some weeks ago several west
Texas towns Including Snyder San
Angelo Sweetv ater Winter and
other points learned of a movea-
nions railroads to make a c limine In
the limits of common point terri-
tory which change would lncreane
freight rates In a vast region In the
West.
To head off ths move a number of
Interested towns had a representa-
tive meeting In San Angelo and a
protest was filed agains t such a
change. These towns got In com-
munication with the Chamber of
Commerce at Dallas believing that
Dallas would stand by the Interests
of West Texas but It seems In that
West Texas was mistaken.
The San Angelo Standard publish-
es a budget of correspondence on
the subject showing that Dallas
Manufacturers and Jobbers are In
agreement with the railroads and
West Texls Is not getting support
from Dallas. A part of th corres-
pondence on the subject Is here giv-
en one to the suspension board at
Washington and another to Railroad

Dear Sir As Vice President of the
San Angelo Chamber of Commerce I
have been Instructed by the board
of Directors to write your body and
ascertain definitely what the atti-
tude of the Dallas Chamber of Com-
merce Is and has been with reference
to the recent proposed change of
rates affecting this territory by the
railroad.
We desire this Information on ac
count of conflicting reports that
have reached u about what the real
attitude of your Chamber of Com
merce Is.
To be frank with you we have It
Intimated to us early In the proceed
ings that the Dallas Chamber of
Commerce looked favorably upon the
the proposition of the railroads to

was that while you were not lending

commerce commission against the
action of the railroad companies In
restricting Texas common point ter-
ritory In connection with Interstate
rates as published In F. a. Inland s
supplement No. 5 to I. C. C. No. 893.
At a recent meeting of the freight
committee of the Dallas Chamber of
Commerce this proposition was dls-
cuswd at considerable length and It
was decided that the action of th
railroad companle in this matter
was fully Justified by all of the cir-
cumstances and the object of this
letter is to advise yonr honorable
board that the manufacturers and
