On Friday of last week the district
co nt oh ta In debating and declamation
for tho Swoetwator District were be
gun iu the Methodist Church at that
place. Tho preliminary debate for
tho evening paired tho Snyder de-
bating team agulnst the Spur debat
ing team. In that contest tho Snyder
boys won out over the Spur team
with two points to one. On tho sumo
night tho Koby team won out ovor
1'ie Rochester by two to one. On Sat
urday morning tho Snyder Team met
.e Sweetwater team and defeated
(hem by two to one while the Abi

t'aiii. In the afternoon Roby mulched
Abilene und won out over them giv-
ing that team four points in all. This
put Snyder and Roby In the flnnl
Vontest Saturday night. The subject
lor discussion was: "Resolved that
tho right of suffrugc should bo ex-
tended to women In Texas on equal
tortus with men." Snyder had the af-
Irmatlvo and put up a game fight
but their opponents having had sev
eral years training seemed to deliver
better and when tho time was called
ud Judges decisions read It develop-
d that Roby was awarded the honor
to represent this district In tho state
contest at Austin tho first Friday und
Saturday in May.
In tho debating contest Snyder
Igh School whs represented by Ho-
nor Wutklns and Willie Eubank who
hpoke In the order here given. In
he first contest they had the affir-
mative and In tho socond when they
defeated Sweetwater they had the
egutlvo. In the final contest with
Roby they had the affirmative. The
fact that hey won over two good
trong teams und on either side of
ho question shows they had pretty
well mustered the subject and had
all the facts pretty well In hand. Sure
y Snyder should bo proud of the re-
ord tho boys made when they re-
inemher that these boys never had
J.'aliilng In debating before this year
und that nel'her of them ever mado
u speech until after ChrlHtmas of this
year.
The declamation contest was held
Saturday morning at ten o'clock aud
here were ton entries. All the boys
eclaimed well but the Judges decld-

Quite a crowd went down from

flights. Teachers attending were Miss

Miss Heath. Miss Davis. Mr. Hszell.

ter Forest Sears snd Master Millie
Harris also went along and all had
nice time.
This contest should not In tha
east discourage the Snyder boys but
hould cause them to redouble their
energies and go out next year with
tetter preparation. It Is to be hoped
Ibat this festure of the school work
which Is very practical will be push-
ed forward until the boys of the
Fnyder High School will be able to
CO out In the world and meet their
neighbors on the hustings and show
Iheniselves masters of the fine art of
ublle speaking and debating.
The time to begin Is now not next
y.-ar snd all the boys who think they
will enter these fields next year
should get busy at once and keep It
up till victory comes.
