A Word from W. T. Thomiwon
The offices of Justice of the Pence
and CommlslRoner are entirely ep-
arate but the law does permit one
man to hold both offices. Lowe and
Brown are the only persona who
have held the offices together In this
precinct In the pnst twelve yenrs. The
names of those running for the two
offices will appear In separate placet
on the ballot. So you can elect one
man Commissioner and another Jus-
tice of the Pence If you ao desire. A
mnn might he qualified for one of-
fice and not be fitted for the other.
I did not want the office of Justice
of the Peace no did not offer for this
place nut if the people see fit to
elect me Commissioner of this Pre-
cinct I will try my very beat to see
that they got full value for every dol-
lar of their taxes I handle.

TEXAS
THE HARVEST IH NEAR
There Wilt he Demand for lalr to
Have the Crop.
The time has come In Scurry Coun
ty when the merchants the farmers
and men In all lines of activity are
realizing that the country la read)
for a general Influx of laborers. The
County Is Just now maturing the big
gest crop of cotton and feed stuff ev-
er gronw In West Texas.
The former years of short crops
here have caused the going away of
a great many people and there Is
now no surplus labor to bo found
here. Practically every farmer has
all ho can do and as the harvest time
comes on he will find himself over
crowded with work and in need of
help.
Scurry county has 6". net) acres of
cotton and 75.oo to itn.oni) acres
of feed crops and It promises nn
abundnnt yield and we must save it.
The feed crop Is practically made and
a hlg cotton crop assured. We have
no translenMabor to fall back on
without getting them In from other
parts of the country and the time Is
up now to let laborers know of our
needs and of the opportunities that
await them here.
The harvesting of feed will begin
now In a ilf"t time and tlKtt conies
rotten picking and other ut-m wirk
Following this the county will soon
be ready to enter upon a road build-
ing campaign and thus the lalror
nurliC will go on av on
It will he remembered that when
this country has made hlg crops In
former yenrs the dearth of labor
caused the loss of great ununtities of
rot ton in the fteh!. We ought to take
ud the matter early this year and
secure labor and save the fruits of
our year's work.
It Is suggested to everybody In
writing your friends bark east to tell
them n' out the need of laborers here
in the richest healthiest and the
most promising portion of the state.
