THE OIL SITUATION AROUND
SNIDER IS LOOKING BETTER
A well backed up report came lu
here Tuesday that the woM drillers
at Juatlceburg had passed through
fifteen feet of oil sand during Mon-
day night and that they had a fine
showing for oil. The Riley well which
has been fishing at 2200 feet for a
lofct drill have recovered the drill and
It is understood drilling has been
resumed The Mt. Pleasant people at
Fluvanna are laying a two ml'.e rlp
line to get waten for drilling pur-
poses. It is reported that the Long
well has had some trouble with cav-
ing at about 160 feet. The Trevey
has the derricks ready and waiting

AUX1LARY MEETING
An enthusiastic meeting of the wo-
man's Missionary Auxiliary of the
M. E. church met Monday afternoon
with splendid attendance.
Mrs. Lee T. Stlnson conducted the .
devotional and Mission study. '
Subject "America's Genius for As
similation." y
Mrs. NV. A. Doak will conduct tb"
Bible study at the next meeting.
Subject "John's Gospel tho grea
est book in the world."
A petition was circulated here thU
week to ask the city Council to order
an election to be he'd in the City of
Snyder on the proposition of adopt-
ing the commission form of City gov-
ernment. It ha) been flgurod that the
retltlon must have 60 signers to bo
10 per cent of the voters
It required but a short time to
get 80 signers to the petition and It
is understood the council will imme-
diately take the matter up and order
the election.
The Sign! bo'Jeves thU utep If
f donted will be the starting of a new j
era of progress In Snyder and w ill re-
unit In getting new enterprises and
Itv the building of a beautiful sub-
stantial progressive city.
Snyder needs lots of things and
under this form of government ways
and moans can be brought about to
put Snyder to the front.
Snyder needs improved streets and
sidewalks extension of water and
Hewer system a high school building
a public square that the people will
bo proud of. All these things will
of course cost money but after they
come there will not he a person will-
ing to he without hem.
A town must gf forward orback
ward and our self esteem prompts ab-
horrence of Kotng back wards. It will
soon be put up to us to say wheth-
er Snyder Is to hit the malnhlghway
of progress or stay as she baa" been
for more than 10 years.

With a scholastic census of 498 it
can be seen why the board is unable
to furnish a full quota of teachers.
Our teachers are somewhat handi-

so far as I know the patrons are

SNYDER PLUNGING TO THE
FRONT; SHOWS HI6H SPIRIT
Snyder is now showing a spirit of
business activity that has lain dor-
mant for three years. The Cham-
ber of Commerce movement is an
inspiration and things will soon be
doing.
A business men's banquet Is now
In order so the people may discuss
new enterprises.
Among other things It would be
appropriate to jubilate over the fact
that the Snyder Utilities Company
have turned darkness into light and
now when you go into a room you
can turn the switch with confidence
sure of the Juice.
Certain service assures popular
approval of an sou of public insti-
