Most folk perm 10 think that all
the HoMK I'AI'KK is for is to rend
Thiit done it it time to tear it uj
uxe it for wrapping paper put it in
the pantry shelves or u-e it for kind-
ling. All of which are very food
ways to u the hark number.
Why if we were to keep all the
hark numbers of any Rood county
paper in less than a year we would
have collected a real library con-
taining several pood stories the
cream of the political and religious
news of the year a record of the
world's irreatesl events and a real
diary of the local doings of the en-
tire county. Hut most of us are
not willing td (five the Home Paper
room for even one short week. As
a rule the life of the Home Paper
is about two nights and one day.
Ibis is one reason it is the most
s-oiirht publication in all this Nation.

For this reason we are (ruing to
su'ire-t that everybody who tke
their Home Paper to put up a lit!';1
line behind a door somewhere and
file them away for at bast a month.
You would be urpiicd how m:my
time you would refer to it col-
umns. And should you keep them
for a whole year your home would
become a real bureau of information
and that pile of papers the commun-
ity's encyclopedia. Then too if
you were to see at one time all
that you have received for l.ftO or
whatever the price of your home
paper may he for a year you'd
never again kick on the price. In-
stead you might be happy to pay for
it in advance. If the paper alone
that you receive by taking your
home paper for one year were hud
down in your home without a let'er
or a line on it just the plain blank
paper would be worth its cost f r
conveniences around the home. Put
il is not this week's paper nor last
week's paper that is the most inter-
esting. It is next week's paper the
paper of the future we are looking
forward to all the time. Have you
discovered the secret of interesting
yourself in your home paper? If
you have not send something to it
next week yourself then count your
pulse when you see the wrapper. It
is not the NKWS that thrills you
most. It is the sight of what YOC
sent. That's what makes the home
paper mean something to you. To
read something you already knew
about yourself or your family 01
your farm or your school; that's
worth the price of the paper for a
whole year to you.
But there is still a better way to
get your money back that you pav
for the home paper. And this i'
just as true of the farmer as the
business man of the town. And that
is to ADVL'RTISK. Why does the
merchant advertise? To let the
country folks as well as the town
folks know what he has for sale.
To get rid of what he has on hand
so he can use the rah to buy some-
thing else. Why should the farnn t
and his family advertise? To let
the town folks and their neighbor
know what they have that tin
would like to sell for cash or tm.b
for something they need worse. TO
home paper should he the farmer's
commercial clearing house il should
be the universal counter over whi. h
the people exchange commodities
The possibilities of rural advertising
have scarcely been touched. Not
even the art of rural advertising
has been either studied or taught
When the farm boy goes to town
he sees the most artistic cigarette
advertisements all over the town on
sign boards as big as the side of a
ham. Hut what of the boy's fine
p:gs in the pen? What of his regis-
tered chickens? Who ktiows almut
the butter and eggs; the cream and
the milk on his father's farm? Due-
anybody know about the beans and
tomatoes or the big pumpkins that
are (ruing to waste in his mother's
garden? And oh there are so many
things the mother and children and
tile house needs if they nn.'v hail
the money tliit! is going to wa-le.
Hut no one reads their advertise-
ment. Hut almost every week they
answer the eull of the citv advertis-
er in their home paper or else-
wliere and away goes the little ca.ih
they have to some foreign city
to get something they have never
seen because it is CHKAP! One
of the richest advertising fields in
America i." the rural field and it
should In' cultivated and the crop
harvested by the home paper. Isn't
it queer that the cities will take
aii. aiit.ige of every big tree by the
i.e of the road the board ten' es
that bound the fields of grum the
bridge banisters the rocks if they
happen to be near a road and even
the barns and hen houses of the
farmer to advertise their wares
but never a word is said about what
is in the barn or hen house or the
field.
Mother if you have chicken" or
turkeys to sell advertise them. Muy-
be some of your neighbor would
find it out and buy them before
somebody steals them. The thieves
know who have good chickens and
where to get them. But im one
else dues. Son if you have a bush-
el of peanuts or pop corn to spare
advertise it. Somebody warns it.
There are lots of folks wanting
pumpkins for Hallowe'en and don't
know where to grt them. Let's
make t lie lountry as interesting as
tb" citv by advertising what i
there.
