RIOTING ENDS
A monthly financial re-
port, showing receipts and
disbursements of the City ! British Put Down Jewish
of Orange for July, was, mM 1 «* •* a#a_
published ,in the Leader
yesterday.
• We are calling special
attention to the fact be-
cause this statement is the
first that haa been publish-
ed by the city for years, al-
though publication each
month is a requirement of
the city charter.
The Leader, some weeks
ago, called'attention to this
charter provision and urg-
ed that the Mayor give the
public the information to
which, in our judgment
and by law, they were en-
titled. ;
The Mayor, in reply, said
that this would be done.
It has been done.
And the Mayor says it
will continue to be done
regularly in the future dur-
ing his administration.
• • •
The Leader believes it
has made its position clear
in the matter of urging
publication of this state-
ment
The revenue which this
newspaper derives from the
publication is negligible.
As a matter of fact, the
cost of handling the state-
men is almoMt as much as
the publication fee.
Its interest in the matter
was purely because it be-
lieves thst the public is en-
titled to know where its
money goes. ,
This applies to all pub-
lic funds—city, county,
school, district—whatever
agency may collect them.
Both the county and city
are required by lawLto gixa
