TO AN INFANT.

O beauteou Bud of Hope! Thy birth
•Has lent a newer charm to earth;
But when thou lef'st yon fairer clime
To wander to this world of Time,
Didst leave no one to grieve for thee
Lingering beside the Jasper Sea?
Or didst thou leave thy Maker's breast
To settle in an earthly nest
Or even thou hadst oped thine eyeB
On the sweet flowers of Paradise?
Pair Wanderer from some happier
sphere!
Sorely thou art. exotic here,
Borne downward on some Angel's
wlnii
From climes of never-fadins Spring!
Else why the gladness of the smile
Playing about thy lips the while?
And why the brightness of those eyes
So soon to diiu beneath our skies?
Sweet one! that smile, those eyes,
declare
How bright thy native regions ure!
Thou brigbt-eyed wanderer from the
skies!
For thee our earnest prayers arise,
That thou mayest ever lovely be,
And from earth's sins and follies
free,
As when thou earnest to qttr land
Fresh from a loving Father's hand;
And when at last front open scroll
An Angel shall call out the roll,
May the sweet name thou bearest
jhere
Be found 'mong those recorded There!
O precious one! mayest thou remain
Spotless and free from earthly stain!
Tlio' while 011 earth 1 know thou
must
E'er be exposed to change and rust,
Yet from the fiercest test, when
tried,
May'st ever come forth purified;
And then, transferred, a radient gem.
To the Redeemer's diadem.
In all thine undimmed lustre shine
Where day fades not nor suns decline!

Western Union to Inaugurate a
New Service Known aa
Night Letters at Nom-
inal Rates.
Announcement is made by the
Western Union Telegraph Com-1
puny that it will shortly be pre-
pared to handle long night mcs-j
sages at the rates customarily i
charged for ten-word day uic^-l
satires.
II appears thai the. Western
I'niori has a large unemployed,
hiileage of wires at night which
is not ear wing anything. These;
wires must be maintained in any
1 vent to take care of the regu-
lar day business, and il is ap-
parently the idea of the new in-
lerests in the telegraph company;
to let the public have the benefit
of them. The announcement also
slates that a special Night Letter
service will be established as soon
as practicable. The charges for
this service will be the standard
day rate for ten words, for the
transmission of fifty words or
less, and one-fourth of such stan-
dard day rate will be charged for
each additional ten words or less.
To be taken at these rates
"Night Letters" must be written
ill plain English language, that
is to say, code words or commu-
nications written in foreign lan-
guages will not be accepted. The
message will be taken at any
hour up to midnight arid trans-
mitted at the company's conveni-
ence during the night for deliv-
ery the following morning. For
the present this new service is
confined to Western I'nion offi-
ces in the United Stales. The
tariffs charged for Night Let-
ters are so low il is expected
that the new service will he large
ly availed of by business concerns
and others to quicken their cor-
respondence by useing the tele-
graph instead of the mails. A
Night Letter sent by telegraph
will reach its destination at the
opening of business hours the fol-
lowing morning, thus saving as
much as t liree of
long distances are involved

As we have had a fine rain
and the farmers are smiling and
the bankers and merchants are
nearly tickled to death, and the
politicians nearly scared to death,
now is the time for our town to
put on her Sunday clothes and
have a big day and a good time.
Mexia is a fine town---railroads
and automobiles running in every
direction and with as fine wa-

'HERE IS NOTHING that strikes terror to the
hearts of parents more than to be awakened in
the night by the ringing cough which accompanies
an attack of croup. The child may retire with
nothing but a slight cold and a few hours later the family
be aroused by the ominous symptoms. Every home where
there are small children should be prepared for these sud>
den attacks, as prompt treatment is necessary. Do not
experiment with remedies of doubtful value, but get
CHAMBERLAIN'S
COUGH REMEDY
that has been in use for nearly forty years and never known
to fail.
Mr. Homer Krohn, of I.isbon,
Iowa, in a letter to the manufac-
turers of Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy praises this medicine for
what it has done for his children
He says: "It has not onlv saved
them once but many u time Onlv
two weeks ago my txjy had the
croup so had in the ni^bt that had
it not been for having a bottle of
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy in
the house he would have choked
before a doctor could have gotten
to the house. It is a medicine that
no one should be without at any
time." It is pleasant to take and
many children like it.
We guarantee every bottle of
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy,"
says \V. M J'arish, l'almeiston,
(intano. "Out of the many bottles
sold last winter not one was re-
turned. We recommend it espe-
cially for children with croup."
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is
famous for its prompt cures of
coughs, colds and croup. When
giveu as soon as the child becomes
hoarse an attack of croup may be
averted. This medicine is entirely
free from narcotics or injurious sub-
stances of any kind and may be
given to the little ones with abso-
lute safety.
Attack* of croup are most likely to occur during the early
winter months, and every family with young children should
be prepared for it. Keep a bottle of CHAMBERLAIN'S
COUGH REMEDY in your home. It only coat* a quarter,
large size 50 cents. Your druggist sells it
