Viney Grove, No. 2, Aug. 8—
The rains that fell recently were
enjoyed by all. The stubble is in
condition for plowing, and the
people are making preparation
for another grain crop.
Mr and Mrs Smagertv of Alto-
ga visited Mr and Mrs Pruitt last
Sunday.
Mrs Cora Skelton is sick.
Quite a number of people from
here attended the baptizing Sun-
day near High Point.
A holiness meeting will be con-
ducted here by Rev Dilbeck, com-
mencing in about two weeks.
Rev Dilbeck lives in Fannin coun-
ty.
Jim Cave went to Melissa Mon-
day.
Some cotton is opening and the
people are making preparations
to begin picking.
The late cotton is being dam-
aged considerably by f,ie boll
worms. If tho cloudy weather
continues it is feared that the
worms will ruin all of the late
cotton.
Gillie Abbott and Bert Ilodges
made a trip to Fannin county uud
procured a nice load of fruit.
The Choral Society at this place
will meet at its regular time, after
the big meetings close. Every-
body invited.
Miss Clara T jmpkins is visiting
relatives near Celino.

Young Couple of Near Allen Wed-
ded Sunday.
Mr William Dickerson and Miss
Dessa Waiden, both of near Al
len, were married Sunday after-
noon at 7 o'clock at the residence
of.Elder John M McKinndy^ that
clergyman officiating*
Mr Dickerson is a prosperous
young farmer, and his bride is a
daughter of Hex Warden, a eon
of F M Warden of this city. El-
der McKinney officiated at the
marriagv of the young lady's par-
ents about twenty years ago.

in our midst Sunday afternoon.
Miss Annie Pierce of Pilot
Point is visiting her aunt, Mrs
J W Cox.
The little two months infant
son of Mr and Mrs C. N. Purr
who reside a short distance east
of town, was scalded to death
Saturday afternoon, the par-
ticulars of which are as follows:
Mrs Furr had gone over tg> her
husband's store whiob is only a
short distsnce from their borne,
leaving her little four old daugh-
ter with the baby. The little
girl picked up the baby and start-
ed over to the store, and as she
was carrying it in front of her
could not see ahead, so stumbled
over a kettle of boiliog water
which was sitting in the yard over
a fire, and the infant dropped in-
to the kettle. The little girl
screamed for her mother and
reached her bands into the boil-
ing water and tried to pull the
babe out. Mrs Furr reached the
scene in a moment and lifted the
child out and summoned medical
aid, but it was so terribly scalded
that it died within a short time.
The little girl's hands and arms
were feat fully scalded in her at-
tempt to rescue her little baby
brother.
The funeral of the little one
took place Sunday afternoon at
3 o'clock, Rev. W A Stuckey con-
ducting services at the residence.
The interment was made in Wil-
sou'e> Chapel cemetery.

Foote, Aug. 8.—Our school
house is nearing completion and
looks nice.

have been down two weeks with

Griftin, left last Monday for Can-
yon to visit their daughter and
sister, Mrs L L Hand.
