Everybody knows the pretty little

perhnpa because of iln name than lt«
benuty. How was It no called? Tbe
Uerinuns account for it l>y quite a pa-
thetic renin nee. It seems thut once up-
on a time a knight and u lady were
walking by the bank of the Danube
when the latter asked her "gallant Kay"
to pluck for her a tiny blu« Uower
which she saw growing in the at ream.
No soouer said than done, but the
knight, overbalauclng. fell into the riv-
er and. owing to the slippery n..ture of
the bank and the weight of his own ar-
mor, was carried away by the current
Ab he threw the flowers ashore to his
lady he cried out with hiB last breath,
"Vergiss roein ulcht!"(" Forget me uot.")
And ever since the flower lias been
looked upon as the emblem of fidelity.
London Police Methods.
This Is the modus operandi of Lon-
don's police: Two citizens engage In a
•treet light; crowd gathers to see the
mill; four "bobbies" appear, working
their way through the press with a "by
your leave" or "kindly let me pass;"
they have neither billies nor guns. Twa
seize each eoinbatart, leading hhn aside
with no rough hands and arguing thus
In chiding tones: "Aren't ye 'shamed
o' ye'selfV What's the good o' tightin'?
Leave scraps to dogs. Now, run along
an' behave ye'self. There's a good
chap." These words are accompanied
by a pat on the shoulder and a gentle
shove away from the scene of conflict.
