That Is a fact, and the time Is
not far distant when the money

vocate the extension of the 8tate

with the TexaB and New Orleans,
that the Rusk iron fields may be
opened to North Texas, where the

The Fort Worth Record says that
Dr. W. W. Wards worth was sus-
pended from the ministry for "kiss-
ing a woman" In Oeorgia. While
we do not criticise the Doctors
taste he seems to have shown poor
judgment in selecting Georgia. Had
he chosen Alabama now. or Kansas
he might have been Congressman
or Governor. In "kissing a woman
quite a lot. depends upon locality.
During his young manhood the
poet Bryant lived for several years
in Great Barriugton, Mass. A re-
cent visitor to that place says that
he was once town clerk at the annu-
al salary of five dollars, and there
is preserved a small slip of paper,
yellow with age. on which is written
in a delicate hand his receipt for the
money. In his records as town
clerk only one blot, can be found
and this is on the registry of his own
marriage. The only interlineation
Is that connected with the birth of
liis first child, he having forgotten
to insert the name of the mother.

and for a while justice of the peace.
These little facts are Interesting as
showing that great poets may also
be "everyday men"—just folks, like
the rest 01 mankind.
The Length of a Life.
We commonly count age by years.
Yet there Is another thought and a
new view of the question in Bailey's
"Festus." There we read:
We live in deeds, not years: in
thoughts, not breaths:
In feelings, not in figures on a dial.
We should count time by heart
throbs. He most lives
Who thinks most, feels the noblest,
acts the best.
Is not this a higher view of life
and one more worthy of our adopt-
ing than the old, prosaic count.

house, as we go to press, in advoca-
cy of his candidacy for the demo-
crat U' nomination for congress from
this district. He was introduced by
E. W. Klrkpatrlck. The rain some-

consequence Mr. Barrett's audience
is not as large as it otherwise woul.l
have been had it not rained. Sen-
ator Barrett, who at present repre-
sents Fannin and Lamar counties
in the state senate, is an eloquent
speaker and can entertain any au-

a lucid, forceable manner upon
which he asks the voters to support
him for congress.

the legislature from Kaufman coun-

favor of a law compelling railways
to issue transportation, free of

railroad, a pass to any one. Sar-

*IYue politeness is never Self-con-
scious, and so Its possessor cannot
be embarrassed. Robert Louis Ste-
venson once wittily defined a geu'lc-
mati as "the man who could meet a
prince without being overpowered
and a coal heaver without overpow-
ering him." The more one thinks
over that definition, the better it
grows. It is a good model.—Select-
