sen The Well Comes In.
By A. C. fienge
I've sold my mules and my brin-
dle cow
And my Georgia stock and my
turnin' plow,
And my old brood-sow that I
bought last spring,
And have bought some stock in
a well, I jing,
They're goin' to bore somewhere
and when,
They fetch her in just watch me
then
As I'm shovelin' in my piles of
tin
An' alivin' high—when the well
comes in.
'Twas the finest feller you ever
see
That sold me the stock, an' he
says, sezee,
That a feller's a fool to sweat
and toil
Instead of pultin' his money in
oil
That'll make him rich in a little
while,
So his folks can live in the latest
style
An' move to town and dress like
sin,
With nothin' to do—when the
well comes in.
When I told Poteet, who runs
the bank,
That I'd bought the stock, why
the blamed old crank
Said a feller was just a plain
darn fool
To sell his stock and his farmin'
tools
And the other things that he's
got to sell
And put his money in a wildcat
well;
But you just wait and watch me
grin
At old Poteet—when the well
comes in.
When the well comes in I'm go-
in' to buy
A great, big car that's geared up
high,
And then doll up from head to
feet
And drive to the bank to see Po-
teet;
And I'll make him feel like a ten
cent fool
For advisin' me not to sell my
mules
And my farmin' tools and the
corn in the bin
And buy oil stock—when the
well comes in.
Night Police Favored
It was«asked at Wednesday's
meeting of the Commercial
Club that Mayor Corley and the
city commissioners be conferred
with looking to some action in
providing for another man to
serve on the city police force at
night, after Mr. Allen goes off
duty.
Dr. M. M. Brown was ap-
pointed chairman of a commit-
tee to meet the mayor and com-
missioners and ascertain their
attitude on the question. City
Marshal Allen was present and
stated that the need for a night
police was becoming more and
more evident each day as the
population increased. Mexia
has a night watchman, J. H
Redden, but he does not act as a
peace officer. It was suggested
that the two jobs of police and
night watchman be combined in
to one, which, taking the pres-
ent salary of the night watch
into consideration, would re
quire very little extra money.
Mrs. White Heads Red Cross
Announcement is made that
Mrs. W. M. White will be select-
ed chairman of the local Red
Cross chapter to carry out und-
er her direction, the fourth an-
nual roll call, which is now und-
er way. The committee this
year began the work of renew-
ing and soliciting members a
little late, but we learn that
progress of a gratifying nature
has been made already.

Health of the Nose
Throat and Lungs
By Hermann Pedersen,
D. C., Ph. C., Palmer Graduate
The health of the nose, the
throat and the lungs is import-
ant at this season of the year.
Nasal stoppage is not only un-
pleasant, but dangerous. Sore
throat interferes with digestion
and unless quickly mastered, in-
fects the system. Lung ail-
ments are responsible for more
deaths than any other single
group.
