FARMERS TURN TO POULTRY.
Tile plight of the farmers, in this section of Texas is be-
coming a subject of alarm. Corn in most places is reduced to a
short crop of nubbins. Oats and other feed crops raised in this
part of Texas are practically total losses. Cotton is looking "av-
erage" in most fields but the crop is dependent upon rainfall.
, Pastures are dry and brown; streams are parched and cracked
tod stock water is becoming a grave problem. Many farmers
Eiselves are having to haul water for their families to drink,
let the sober, serious, thoughtful, honest, hard working,
ere remember that "God is in His Heaven and all is right
with the world." The farmers have judgment enough and wis-
Eenough to work out their own salvation. Nobody has ever
able or undertaken to do it for them. They are showing
ight in this section now by the scores in turning to poultry

as their own hope and only salvation. While other sections may
raise poultry feed, the Mexia territory can raise the poultry,
they say and these farmers are already coming to town almost
daily with a few dozen eggs and returning with money in their
pockets. They are going to be able to stem the tide of need this
Fall without adding to their loans.
LIMESTONE POULTRY AT BAYLOR.
Lewis Gunter of Thornton is another Limestone County cit-
izen who is adding to the wealth and prosperity of the county,
during this drouth stricken season, by turning his attention to
poultry. He is an A. and M. man and is proving a worthy pro-
duct of that institution by showing unusual intelligence in his
work. He is making a record in the poultry business, as well as
having found the experience unusually profitable considering
his start and investment. He has a contract to supply the Ral-
eigh hotel at Waco 8 cases of eggs each week. His entry of the
Baron strain of White Leghorns in the Baylor University con-
test are attracting state wide attention, his hens leading all
others, it is learned here, in the egg laying contest. Such men,
who believe in the best always and who are determined to make
a success of the poultry business are the ones who are going to
be responsible for transforming Limestone county in a few
years into the most notable poultry section in the state.
You can read character in how a man parks his car. Take for
example, the case of a driver coming up, looking for a place to
park. He finds a hole big enough for two cars and gets right
n the middle, so that the space cannot be shared with another.

It is rumored that a local fisherman dislocated a shoulder
describing the size of one of the fish he caught but which got
away. Guess who?

A Letter From
People of Fallon
We wish to extend our heartiest
thanks and greatest appreciation to
those who met with us at the box
supper at Fallon school house on
Friday night, June 5th, and took
part in same. A misunderstanding
in other places prevented a r.umber
from attending; however, the sum
. we received on that night is highly
appreciated and we feel thankful for
the success, thinking it would have
been better if we could have gotten
a rain. We trust it will come our
time next. The Lord knows best.
Since we have elected Mr. J. D.
Williams as manager of the Fallon
baseball team he has reserved the
Lord's Day saying, "We should keep
it holy." We play anytime except
Sunday. Everybody come, you don't
have to pay to get in the grand
stand; our space is free, drive your
car up and park in a good place,
see and cheer us. We welcome one
and all, and do our best to make
our games interesting, and play with
as much energy as those who receive
large salaries for their efforts.
We also wish to say a word of
gratitude for those lovely boxes of
great art which were displayed on
that night, which were all filled
with goodies and enjoyed by all.
Mr. T. B. Walker as our auction-
eer, made things lively, and the time
flew by. We certainly did appreciate
his services. All boxes on display
that r.ight were artistic and pretty
but we wish that you could have
seen two of them. One being af
queen lily basket, yellow basket out-
lined with tinsel handle and all, and
natural looking flowers in abundance
gloriously filled the top, n ad« a
beautiful spectacle. It was partly
made ar.d specially designed for that
occasion by Mrs. S. J. McCoslin, a
noted artist in dressmaking and
paper art. Miss Velma Jackson was
the lucky young lady, being the
owner of the beautiful basket.
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Carroll and
family of Fallon are home again af-
ter sper.ding a delightful vacation in
Austin, San Antonio and other point
in South Texas. They were accom-
panied by Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Mc-
Elroy and family, the rural carrier
on our mail route. They reported an
excellent trip but report a drouth
'over almost the entire section vis-
ited by them. The people of Fallon
welcome these good folks home and
certainly did miss all during their
absence. —A Citizen of Fallon.
