MEXIA AS A MARKET.
Interest is "being- directed in Mex a «t present toward the
subject of better markets for the poultry raisers of this section
of Texas.
The main thing'is to get the poultry in the section. That is
being done. The Limestone Pouhrv Association has been a res-
ponsible factor in bringing about a jrocnvth in the industry
which is not equalled in any section of the state. The coming
Fall will witness more poultry than over before, and although
the demand for poultry and pouhvy products in Alexia alone is
very large, yet there are thoso who foresee that Alexia cannot
use all the chickens and eggs that are to be oi'terd for sale.
Already farmers are walking the streets selling eggs. They
are seeking customers who will use their products regularly and
eliminate the need of the mid.iie man. This system is bound
sooner or later to discourage nouh.ry production. The market
in this way is frequently "glutted" already. For example a few
days ago "a man said "I saw something in Alexia Saturday
which 1 never saw before. I saw farmers walking the streets
unable to sell tbeir eggs."
In the establishment oi .. market, the first thing, after lay-
ing the foundations for the indus-ry s to provide the pro-
ducts to be handled, is that of establishing a cold storage. Mexia
has the cold storage, so that is settled.
In marketing eggs, the fertile and infertile eggs should ba
■eparated. The infertile eggs may be placed on cold storage and
held for bigger prices and the fertiio eggs utilized for present
marketing and local consumption. This business of separating
the eggs into these two divisions may be done by the poultry
raisers themselves. Their assortment, however, should then
again be checked over, to eliminate all ills errors poss ble.
"The Middle Man" is one of the necessities of any market-
ing system that was ever devised. In this instance and in this
place, one or more, should go into a thorough study of the sub-
ject and get the necessary information to handle the coming
business most profitably to the section.
Not every man can make a success of it. Many a man has
gone broke trying to market poultry and poultry products. It re-
quires study and work.
It is not a new thing at all. Other counties have had their
marketing problems and have solved them. Anyone contemplat-
ing entering this business here should go U> such successful
poultry centers, make a first hand survey of the situation, and
then come back ready to apply the successful way right here
:n Alexia.
When this is done, those now interested in raising poultry
may do so with even greater confidence, knowing that they
will be able to market their products to advantage, without the
trouble of trying to peddle them out to the consumer direct.
The poultry industry is due to take the place of petroleum
as a community builder. It has been demonstrated already that
this can be done right here in Limestone and Freestone coun-
ties and no stone should be left unturned in making greater
success an actuality soon.
It is a source of much gratification to note the growing in-
terest in these subjects.
Let's have some letters from the people regarding this.
In the meantime, build the auditorium.

them will remain in Limestone Coun-

the poultry business is a chief topic
of talk among chicken men of th« ,
state.
The slogan for the Limestone

recently suggested is "A Million
