Bethlehem's Babe Was Divine Ditfator
PETER'S PRESENCE
AT ROME ACCEPTED
BY FOLKS WHO QUIT
The/ presence of St. Peter In
the city of iRome. his service
there as tlrst Bishop of 'Rome ant.'
his glorious martyrdom in his see
city at the time of the big 11th
century fuss between East an(
West were tho facts which tht
dissenting Easterners never call
ed Into question. Both the East-
ern Emperors, who provoked the
schism, and the Eastern bishop?
who followed it. had no quarre"
with history's report that Pete
lived In Rome, served as Pishor
there, died there, etc. The East
erners, whose history before the
11th century records the belie'
of all their outstanding writerf
in the supremacy of Peter's see.
for political reasons broke with
Rome. Aided by tomperamenta'
differences between East and
West and led on by ambitious Em
perors who wanted ecclesiastical
as well *s civil independence
from Rome, the dissidents began
to claim that the Patriarchs of
Constantinople. Jerusalem an(*
Antloch had an equal standim
with the Bishop of Rome.
In spite of their fierce quarrel
with Rome, howevqr. none denied
that Peter was Bishop of Rome
and that he died and was burled
In the See City he served.
If modern agnostics in the
f' 1d of history be right in de-
nying what even the schismatics
never denied, then followers of
the Historic Church have one
consolation, namely, the fact that
they have such distinguished com-
pany, for nearly all the outstand-
ing writers in the early Church,
both in the East and the West, as
w(^l as the vast majority of or-
ganized Christians for 20 cen-
turies have agreed with them
For the foes of St. Peter's pres-
ence in Rome there is only the
bittter consolation of knowing
that their prejudice against the
Roman Catholic Church has led
them to embrace the viewpoint
that Almighty God. despite His
divine power, willingly stood b>
and let practically all the follow
ers of Hia Divine Son up until the
16th century fall into "error."
Such, of course, could not be.

Amoral School
A Danger
—The Baptist Standard—
"It is, possible for America to
pay so much attention to military
demands In ' her efforts to gua-
rantee peace that she will over-
look the greatest power factor of
all — tshd nurture of Christian
leaders and the indoctrination of
Christian ddeds into the minds of
men — We cannot , property edu-
cate and train our leaders in in-
stitutions of higher education
which at best are amoral and at
worst agnostic. A secular .Institu-
tion, NO MATTER lioW HIGH
ITS ACADEMIC RATING; can
NEVER produce a suitable cli-
mate for the nurture of great

Cod Is love. — St. John
Jesus, the Babe of Bethlehem,
as the Divine Dictator of souls,
in the presence of witnesses who
recorded His utterances made
many dictatorial statements. Of
these one of tile most important
wa8 that declaration which gives
such deep meaning to the Masp:
"Except you eat the flesh of the
Son of God and drink His Blood,
you shall NOT have life In you "
Developing the thought that
the Son of God in human flesh
came as a benevolent Dictator
and left a Church with the same
right to speak with benevolent
dictatorial authority, the annual
Christmas message addressed on
Christmas Day to all the people
of Jefferson, Hughes Springs and
Daingerfield by their Catholic
pastor presented the theme that
the Mass, that day an the lips
of all, is the greatest treasure left
In the world by the Divine Dicta-
tor of Bethlehem.
RIGHT TO BE DICTATOR
The annual homily, delivered
at Christmas Midnight Mass in
Immaculate Conception Church,,
jlctured the Divine Babe as One
who has a right" to dictate to His
creatures the terms on which
hey could obtain the Kingdom of
Heaven/ Noteworthy "terms"
were stated In the rery words of
the Christ Child thus: "Except
you be born again of water and
the Holy Spirit, you CANNOT
enter the Kingdom of Heaven;"
He that belleveth and is BAP-
TIZED shall be saved;" "Unless
you do penance, you shall ALL
likewise perish;"
Special attention was directed
In the message to that condition
set by the Divine Babe which re-
sulted in the Mass, from which
In turn people coined the greet-
ing, "Merry Christ's Mass, Mer-
ry Christmas." Detailed In the
homily was the insistence of the
Divine Redeemer, even over the
protests of His hearers, that to
get to Heaven men would have
