Keith L. Cook, a Liberator bomb-
er pilot aj the ftio Hato Army Air
Base, has been promoted to that
rank from 2nd Lieutenant it was
announced at Sixth Air Force
Headquarters.
Lt. Cook is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. E. H. Cook of Barger, Texas.
His wife, the former Sally Ilig-
gins, lives in Houston. Texas. He
attended Kansas State College and
prior to entering the army was a
civil engineer for the Panhandle
Eastern Pipeline Co., Kansas City,
Mo. He was commissioned in May
1944.
With many hours of military
flying behind him. the lieutenant
recently made application for and
received a commercial pilots li-
cetr c from the Civil Aeronautics
Authority.
MARCEL PAULAIN
Having recently returned from
'the pearl of the Orient", Manila,
after serving nine months in the
supply division, A-4, of General
Kenney's Far East Air Forces,
Marcel Paulain, son of Mr. and
Mrs. M. G. Paulain of Phillips, re-
ceived a discharge on January 10
and has returned home.
Paulain graduated from Phillips
high school with the class of 1937
and graduated from Pittsburg
Business College in June, 1938. He
was employed by the Alamo Re-
finery of the Phillips Petroleum
Co. prior to entering the Air
Corps at Amarillo on Sept. 15,
1941.
He received basic training at
Sheppard Field, Texas, and serv-
ed at Kelly Field, Quero Army
Air Field, Foster Field, and at-
tended a temporary glider school
at Amarillo and, Dalhart. He was
stationed at Dodge City, Kansas
for 23 months prior to being sent
overseas from San Francisco
aboard the USS White Sands, a
tanker, on March 19, 1945.
Docking at Manila, Luzon, in the
Philippines, he was assigned to
duty in the A-4 section of FEAF,
where he remained until home-
ward aboard a C-54 type aircraft
on Dec. 22, 1945 to Pearl Harbor,
Departing from Pearl Harbor on
Dec. 29 aboard the USS Saratoga,
the ship carried him to Alameda
California where he debarked on
January 3.
After receiving preliminary pro-
cessing for three days at Camp
Stoneman, he was sent to Fort
Bliss, Texas, where he was sep-
arated from the service.
A Technical Sergeant at the
time of discharge, Paulain wore
the American Defense Service
Ribbon. Philippine Liberation Rib-
bon, Victory Medal. Good Conduct
Medal. American Theater Rib-
bon, Asiatic-Pacific theater rib-
bon with one battle star for the
Luzon campaign.

the post war -years has been pre-
sented by T. B. Ferguson, vice
president of the Texas Power and
Light Company.
Speaking at the Texas Hard-
ware and Implement Association
convention, he revealed that ac-
cording to surveys of the U. S.
Chamber of Commerce, 1,500,000
families plan to build or buy
new homes when conditions per-
mitted.
Texans are also ready to buy
69,000 electrical refrigerators,
67,000 radios, 54,000 washing ma-
chines and 43,000 ranges.
