forwarding clothing to the needy soldiers
of my company.

By the arrival of the steamer Mavero
Cordalos at Halifax from Bermuda we re-
ceived additional particulars of the scizuie
of the Roanoke.
It appears lhat after leaving Havana Bite
received on board a number of pusseugers
who appronched in boats and who turned
out to be Confederates untler Braine and
Parr. After the capture Braine proposed
to the captain of the Roanoke to bond the
vessel for fifty thotisanddullars in gold. The
proposal wns declined. Braine and his as-
sociates who were placed on trial at Ber-
muda have all been liberated.

the operation of a very ingenious machine
for braiding or platting candle wick inven-
ted aiid made by Ralph Hooker and Baker
Jamison of this city. Il braids three strands
with great rapidity and evenncsjt and is a
curiosity worth looking at. The iugenui y
of these mechanics is well known to our cii-
ize s. This machine will prove one of the
most useful of their inventions furnishing
a solf-consiiining candle wick hitherto a
great disideratuin in domestic candle-making.
We hulieve Frank Fabj of the Hous-
ton Soap and Candle Factory has secured

News dated the 3rd ult. says :
