What Should bo Done.
The proposed constitution is now before
the pcoplo and they from the Gulf of
Mexico to Red river are discussing it and
making up tlieir miuds how to not in ref-
erence to it. We believe they will throw
whatever responsibility it may involve in
the futuro upon the Republican parly by
voting for it and wisely conceding to tem-
porary policy what they oannot yield in
principle. So far as the Democrats aro
concernod wo believe they are by a very
large majority opposed to a party ennven
tion and eager to do anything within the
limits of reason to put a speedy stop to
the cursed anomaly now existing in our
affairs. Thoy can by refusing to hold a
convention and by uniting with tho mod-
erate Republicans defeat the Ab Initios
and fix the paternity of the obnoxious fca
lures of the constitution upon the Repub
lican party of the Slate. Any other
course that we can think of would enable
(he radical Republicans to triumph defeat
llio constitution perpetuate military mis
rule and postpone reconstruction iudefin
itely. If there ever was an occasion when
the Democracy of Texas should all vote
tho same way such an occasion will bo
present in July next or at whatever data
tho election may come off.

fields and teeming with golden grain we
want the treoe of the plowshare to mark
the surface of the soil in every direction--
we want our rivers made navigable and
the curling smoke arising from every bend
and the .team escape-pipe to startle the
solitude ef every approximating neighbor-
hood and we want white rotors and white
immigrants. Do you not want all of these?
If so come up to our help. We know our

giving the principal offices lo our political

we have worked for. Then let ns select
