They Organize an Aid Society.

this meeting tor the following report
of its proceedings:
At a meeting hold at the Catholic
church for the purpose ot organizing
au association for the relief of sick
and destitute persons the name of the
Catholic Benevolent Aid society was
chosen and the following gentlemen
were elected oilicers for the ensuing
year:

The Sunday school scholars sueeeeded
admirably in their efforts oil Friday
night in the Interest of their school
and church. The three tables wero
handsomely presided over. The table
of fancy articles was in charge of
Mrs. Vau Horn ; tho ice cream table
by Miss Sallie Huynes Miss Tolly
Murphy and Mr. Meriwether and the
lemonade stand by Miss Susie Schenck
Miss Fanuic Swindells and Miss Leola
Ray. The urt cullery was also a fea
ture Tho receipts aggregated Go
deducting the expeuses which were six
dollars left a balance of $80 55 which
was divided as follows: $44 75 was
set apart for the Sunday school library
and $35 80 for the baptismal fount.
The quilt to be rallied off' to the hand-
somest baby was awarded to Terry
Crossley son of our friend Sam Cross-
ley he carrying tho Held by a majority
of nearly twenty.

Die board of trustees of the Dallas
Female college have purchased three
acres of ground from Messrs. Thevlnet
& Prather extending from hive Oak
to Bryan street upon which they will
at once proceed to erect a new college
building which when completed will
be one of the handsomest most com
plete and elegant structures of the kind
in the state. Tho situation is o:ie of
the most beautiful In the city uud the
buildiug will enjoy an Isolation so es
sentially necessary in the location of
all institutions of learning. Hev. Mr.
Scales its popular and beloved head

Lee Oilleland who killed Sam Ste
vens a year ago In Lancaster was ar
rested by Deputy Sherif! J. W. Chap
man near Brownsville a few days ago
and Is now lodged In jail In this city
Deputy Sheriff Chapman deserves
much credit for this arrest as Oille-
laud's frlomls we understand em-
ployed their best schemes to thwart
tho eitorts of the sheriff of this county
and his deputies In his arrest.

The city bauk at its new quarters
on the northeast corner of Elm ami
Lamar streets received on Monday
their bank counters which were1
placed In position yesterday. In rich
ness of pattern and elegauce of design
this work is perhaps not equalled in
the south. It is of black walnut highly
finished with veneered puuels and
mouldings of the most superb descrip-
tion. The top of the counters are
Lake Cliamplain marble a most beau
tiful varigated marble similar to
the Egyptian. The entire work cost
lifteeu hundred dollars and was or
dered through Messrs. Grove & Waitt
proprietors of the City Planing Mills
and made at the celebrated Statz &
Woltz office furniture factory of Chi
cago.

Mr. Richard Bruton a highly reS'
pected farmer living near tills city ac-
cidentally shot and mortally wounded
his little daughter aged eight years
on Monday afternoon under the fol
lowing circumstances: Mr. B. had
ti"keu down from the mantle piece an
old pistol which had lain there unused
for a considerable length of time and
turning in an opposite direction from
where the child stood commenced
snapping the trigger when almost si
multaneously with his movement the
little girl sprang in front of him when
one of the loads discharged striking
her near the heart indicting a wound
from which she died the same day.
