We have had something quite un-
usual in Western Texas nearly an en-
tire week of rainy weather. The rain
however has been rather gentle for
the most part and not more than wasi
needed. The roads are in a learlul
condition and our mails have been
yery irregular.
The hill just back of L. W. Mitch-

The Free Press office is doing

our business men will persist in send-

because it cannot be as well and as
cheaply done at home. Call and see

Among the positions to be filled un-
der our approaching "Railroad dispen-
sation" is that of Station Agont for
this place. Mr. Louis McCay of our
town we lonrn is an aspirant for the
position and without intending to dis
parage other applioauts in fact we
do not personally know that there are
any others wo will say that ho ap-
pears to be the preference of the great
body of our citizens including nearly
ifnotallour business men who re
gard him as eminently 'filling the bill1
for the place. He is a skilled and ex-
perienced book-keeper and accountant
a ready business man affable and
obliging and his appointment would
no doubt be entirely satisfactory to
all concerned. He has tho endorse-
ment as we have said ot the great
body of the citizens of this place who
know him wall a fact which ought to
be conclusive as to his qualifications
merits and acceptability. If appoiuted)
the Bailroad company will no dcubt
find him an efficient faithful represen-
tative and with his more immediate
"constituents" will have reason to
congratulate themselves on the appro-
priateness of their selection.

Gentlemon: Youroommunioation of

fully considered. It would be impos
sible for me with words (were I dispos-

you my appreciation of this distinc-
tion shown by you my friends to
clothe me with the honor that at-
taches to a representative of the peo-
ple of this District in the State Senate.
I will first makefcnown to you a sin-
cere unwillingness on my part to enter
the political field for any office at this
tirao; yet personal feelings should al
ways be ignored when they run coun
ter to the wishes and opinions of friends
or the behest of one's country; so it is
yours to order mine to obey; and can
promise you that in the evint of my
election to this place of so much re-

sess to serve you and your best interests.
