A Practical Joke.
Ecclesiastical circles in this city are
much stirred up over a practical joke
perpetrated by a pe-son .as yet un-
known. Four priests residing at points
somewhat distant from this city recent-
ly received lettsrs written on the official
note-paper of the archbishop and bear-
ing in other respects every indication
of authenticity informing them that
his grace had appointed them to parish-
es in this capital. The good pries's
were delighted at the news and made
preparations foi" their journey much to
the regret of their country flocks who
vere ready to memorialize the archbis-
hop agaicst the removal of their belov-
ed pastors The four priests arrived
in due course at this city. One of them
had been assigned in the letter receiv-
ed by him to the parish of San Miguel
and he went there and asked to be put
in possession much to the amazement
of the incumbent Father Bonilla who
was totally ignorant of any intended
change. The newly arrived priest
greatly perplexed then repaired to the
archiepiscopal residence where he was
informed that no letter of the kind ex-
hibited by him had besn sent out. His
journey had been performed to no
purpose for the archbishop had rover
even contemplated the appointments.
It is supposed that some practical joker
obtained possession of some of the
archbishop's oflieial letter paper and
bain? acquainted with the ambitions
of these country priests mailed them
the false news of their appointment.
