hit article how German anti-Semitism
caused great harm to Germany and
her industries during the war and
how at the same time the English
Government together with the Allies
made use of the anti-Semitism of Ger-
many for its own anti-German prop-
aganda. "At the outbreak of the war" states
the Chancellor "the allies expended
unlimited sums of money and much
effort to carry on anti-German prop-
aganda among the Jews the world
over. The English government pointed
out how alliance with the Czar would
improve the position of the Jew in
Russia. England's motto was: We
must primarily destroy Germany
which is the dominant factor in anti-
Semitism and its growth. At the time
when England conducted this cam-
paign against anti-Semitism Germany
published pamphlets and circulars
against the Jews of Eastern Europe

and the officials of. the conquered
provinces of Poland and Russia had
' almost driven the Jews to America.
The English government has very
wisely utilized all these anti-Semitic
reprisals through special Jewish
press bureaus established in London
Stockholm Copenhagen Hague and
Zurich and put forth much effort to
show the Jews that only the victory
of the allies would solve the Jewish
problem.
"Then the English propaganda went
a step further by the issuance of the
now famous Balfour Declaration.
Then for the first time the Imperial
German Government realized the ef-
fects of the English propaganda and
immediately organized a Palestine
Committee whose pretentious aim was
to aid the Jews in colonizing Pales-
tine. Some of the members of the com-
mittee however were noted anti-Semites.
"English prospects did not stop
right there. Even at present the Eng-
lish are using German anti-Semitism
to their own economic advantage.
England is quite aware of the fact
that 00 per cent of the German trade
with Rusfia was carried on by Jewish
middlemen. London now started the
publication of a Jewish Journal of
Commerce published in English and
Yiddish. This journal states as its
principal object to bring about closer
relations between Eastern Jews and
Western Commerce especially that of
England. This journal seems to wield
enormous influence for its circulation
reaches thousands. Its propaganda is
carried on in the most ingenious man-
ner. At present it is able to take ad-
vantage of the down trodden condi-
tion of German industries in order
to swing Jewish trade from the Ger-
mans to the English. The journal has
also established an advertising agen-
cy and an information bureau for the
benefit of the Jewish merchants from
all parts of the world.
"No opportunity is passed by to call
attention in the pages of the journal
to German anti-Semitism."
Such in brief are the contents of
the article made public by the German
ex-Chancellor.
We cannot as yet tell the effect it
will have upon the anti-Semites. The
article is however of utmost import-
ance to us. It is written by one who
was in a position to obtain first hand
information. The fact that he writes
in such a warning tone to his own peo-
ple is of great interest to us. It is
certainly worth our while to give it
our attention.
ANTI-SEMITIC DEMONSTRATION
IN CRANTZ.
Crantx Germany: (By I. J. P. B.)
Anti-Semitic demonstrations were at-
tempted by several young men at
Crantt a summer resort situated on
the East Side. Meetings were held
in the heart of the city and a student
from Berlin made anti-Semitic speech-
es. This was repeated several days un
til some of the Jewish guests of the
resort cabled to Berlin petitioning
the government to guard them as
German citizens from the insults of
the anti-Semites and from the dis-
turbances which might arise through
the anti-Semitic propaganda.
The government responded and
these meetings were prohibited. Two
young men who did attempt to hold
anti-Semitic meetings after the gov-
emment's action were arrested.
