Two blooded hounds from the east
have arrived here and will be taken to

will be raised at the ranch. They are
valuable animals and attracted con-
siderable attention before being taken

The committee having in charge the
arrangements for the reception of the
visiting "school inarms" is preparing
an interesting- programme. Our citi
zens should do all in their power to
assist the committee in the matter so
as to make the visit of the ladies at-
tending the institute a pleasant one.
The male pedagogues can take care of
themselves. Bisbee Orb.
The fire this afternoon has brought
to the minds of tbe citizens and tax
payers of Bisbee the necessity of a first
class fire company and considerable
more equipment?. Two or three stand-
pipes are need on upper Main street
while one is needed in the vicinity of
the opera house and two others in
Brewery Gulch. Atpresent tbereis not
hose enough and in case of several
lengthstursting the firemen would be
seriously handicapped. The present
organization does not seem to be what
it should. Wbile we arenot criticising
tha present members we think that a
much better company could be organ-
ized. There are plenty of able bodied
active young men in our city who
would b'3 glad to organize a company
should thy be given tbe privilege of
doiog eo. B'sbee Orb.
Local football fiends will be interest
ed in the long kick made by P. J.
O'Dea.fullback and captain of the Uni
versity of Wisconsin team in the
Thanksgiving game against the North
western university team of iivanston
111. O'Dea scored a drop kick goal
from the 60 yard Hdo the longest
kick on record. The long distance re
cord of base ball throwing was
broken this .year by Wagner
of Liouisvile who in four
trials threw a ball 330 403. 390 aod 393
feet. The record of 400 feet H inches
made by John Hatfield of the New
York Matuals in 1872 had never baen
broken In any well authenticated case
until Wagner made his long throw
though it is claimed that Ed Crane of
the Boston Unions in 1884 threw a ball
406 feet i inch. Tucson Citizen.
These was a jail delivery at Wilcox
last night. The Mexican who was
wanted in Tombstone for robbery had
been arrested at Wilcox and was put
in jail there awaiting arrival of Sheriff
White to bring the prisoner back. The
visit of Sheriff White was anticipated
by the prisoner and he accordingly
took French leave astonishing both
the sheriff when he arrived and
the authorities at Wilcox who
were laboring under the impression
that the jail recently built was burg
lar proof and of the non-escapable
pattern. An investigation showed that
tbe -Mexican who was almost a Her
cules in strength had wrenched an
iron hook from his cell and with this
ponnded upon twisted and broke the
lock that barred him from liberty. He
made h's escape through tbe roof and
has not been heard of since. Tbe sur
prise is that a jail break could have
been so easily accomplished in view of
the fact that the steel jail and cells
were new and recently built by the
county. The gold watch and money
recovered from the prisoner when ar
rested has been identified and return
ed to the owner. Tombstone Prospec

Common sense teaches that a man should
not over-work or over-worry ; that he should
take ample time for his steals for resting1
and tor recreation and sleep; that he should
not neglect the little ills of life because
they are the precursors of serious and fatal
maladies. Chemistry has enabled men to
make combinations of drugs that were im
possible in the days of the alchemists.
Medical science has taught when how and
why these combinations of drugs should
be used. Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Dis-
covery i9 the most valuable of all health-
restoring medicines and the most effective.
Its first work is upon the fountain-head of
life the stomach. A man who has a weak
and impaired stomach and who doea not
properly digest his food will soon find that
his blooc has become weak and impover
ished and that his whole body is improp-
erly and insufficiently nourished. This
medicine makes the stomach strong facil
itates the flow of digestive juices restores
the lost appetite makes assimilation per
fect invigorates the liver and purifies and
enriches the blood. It is the great Dlood-
maker flesh-builder and nerve tonic. It
makes men strong in body active in mind
and cool in luderment.
It does not make flabby fat but solid
muscular flesh nerve force and vital en
ergy. All medicine dealers sell it.

H. A. Whitney has erected two
steam pumps for Irrigation upon his
lands about nine kilometers northeast
of Hermosillo. Their joint capacity Is
about 160 miners' inches and with
an ample supply to draw from irriga-

sured. Mexican Herald.
At Hermosiilo a couple of weeks
ago C. L. Lake hurt his har.d quite
seriously by the accidental discharge
of a pistol. The bullet pissed between
tbe metacarpal bones of the little and
adjoining fingers of the left hand. At
first the hurt seemed trifling but
owing to inattention or improper care
it afterwards became very painful and
last wek an operation for removal of
proud flesh became necessary. It was
very painful but attendant with good
results. Mexican Herald.
Minister Clayton City of Mexico.ex-
pressed himself yesterday as satisfied
that tbe Temple case would b'3 settled
as far as tbe Mexican and the Ameri
can governments are concerned within
a very few days and to the entire satis-
faction of both. He . intimated how
ever that independent oi tne rempie
case the question of extra territorial
jurisdiction claimed by Mexico would
be thoroughly ventilated and arranged
in such a way that there cannot be any
clash in the future on that account.

A few oeople keep dropping in upon

but this town has no such reputation
as a health rf-sort though it deserves
it as much like Las Vegas Albuquer

Some young ladies from New York
who spent a couple of hours in the city
last night on their way to California
have a variety of things to learn yet.
They possess open minds and observ-
ing eye and during a walk up Rail-
road avenue they made several valu
able discoveries. But when a street
car approached they were at a loss to
find a name lor it. The final decision
arrived at was that the vehicle was a
night lunch wagon. Officer Mc-
Laughlin undeceived them but the
young ladies from tbe greatest city on
the continent stoutly declared that
they had never in their lives beheld
street cars drawn by horses. Albu-
querque Democrat.
Acting upon the advice of the city
physician Dr. Crupp. tbe school board
has closed tbe schools until the first
week in January. While there is no
immediate dancer of contagion from
smallpox it is thought best to cloce tbe
schools for a time ana thus remove all
danger so far as tbe children are con-
cerned. While at the present time
there is no smallpox in tbe city there
are cases in the surrounding country
an 1 the better part of wisdom dictates
that no chances should be taken by
opening tbe schools until the country
district are well rid of the disease.
The school board has acted wisely in
the matter ever since the c'ty has been
threatened with the disease and the
determination to keep the schools clos
ed until after the hoiidavs. at least.

There are two cases of smallpox in
town one of which will be discharged
soon ibe other day a man came from
Trinidad pufferiog from the loath
some disease and after walking round
tbe town for several days asked where
the pest house was and went over and
registered without asking leave. The
colored roan who has been sufferinc
from the disease and has been quaran-
tined took it into his head to take a
walk on Sunday last and telling the
Mexican guard that he had the permis
sion of tbe marshal to leave went west
down tbe railroad track and was soon
lost in the storm which was raging at
tbe time. Deputy Willmunder was ap-
prised of the matter and securinc an
Indian's pony started a'ter him and
rounded him up three miles from town
bringing him back at tbe point of a
revolver. The guard has been given
a gun and instructed to use it in case
his patients insist upon taking a walk
in future without consent of the author
ities. Gallup Gleaner.
In consequence of the complete de
struction of some of the most interest

struction of many more a society has
been formed in Itali for the protection

and English lovers of art have already
given their support to the new society.
