from Alamogordo accompanied by
his private secretary Bowman and
left oa the T. P. to meet the visiting
teachers out of Dallas.
Getting Ready For Visitors.
T. H. Springer is putting in tents
cots and stoves at his camp at Cloud-
croft in order to make things comfort-
able for the convention visitors who
will visit the heights next week and
the Whits Oaks road Is shipping oar-
loads of furniture to Mr. Springer.
Telegraph Service Injured.
The S. P. telegraph servloe was in-
jnred by the wind storm of last night.
Both east and west of El Paso the
wires were blown down but repair
parties were immediately dispatched
by the company to points along the
line where trouble exists and in a
few hours the service will again be per
feet.

The E. P. & N. E. will establish an
information bureau in the First Nation
al Bank building during the teachers
convention where any information con
eerning cloudoroft and the country
touched by the road will be furnished

Proposed New Railroad
A meeting was held June 19 in
McKlnney by promoters of the proposed
new railroad to be built from McKln-
ney into west Collin at which the fol
lowing board of directors were elect'
ed: Jeese Sfeaim J. S. Heard J. P.
Crouch. J. Perry Burns J. W. Fields
K. W. Kirkpatrick and W. B. JNew-
some.
It was decided to build the road
provided the company receive the
hearty co-operation of the peop9le of
McKlnney and along the proposed

A Southern Pacific Feeder.
Beaumont Tex. June 19. It is
learned today that the Gulf Beaumont
and Kansas City railroad will in a few
days begin a passenger traffic arrange-
ment with the Southern Pacific and
that the passenger trains! of the form
er road will use the depot of the South
ern Pacific. This report is especially
significant in view of the fact that it is
recently rumored upon good foundation
that the Gulf Beaumont and Kansas
City railway had been purchased by
the Southern Pacific oompany. The
road extends from this city to Rogan-
Tille a distance of seventy-five miles
nor to. or here and preparations are
cow being made to extend it to a con-
nection with the Missouri Kaneas and
Texas road at Wascom thus making a
through line to the north. Globe De-

It is said that the Astor or Hondu

capitalists has secured a concession
from the government of Honduras for
build Ids' a railway across the Isthmus
from Puerto Cortez on the Atlantic to
Amapala on the Paclfio coast. This
line from ocean to ooean will be about
200 miles long and according to the
grant the syndicate can float bonds
to tbe amount of 120000 gold a mile.
The project is to make New Orleans
tbe chief shipping point and then by
means ol tne Illinois Central and in
conjunction with the United Freight
Company to drain the Mississippi
valley for the Central American
trade.
Enormous Crowds Coming.
Superintendent McQueen of the
G. H. & S. A. has wired the officials
of the road in El Pa90 that the paaseo-
srer train leaving San Antonio on the
23th will be loaded in two sections
each consisting of 12 cars. This train
will arrive in El Paso on the morning
of the 26th and as each car will hold
about 60 people considering a lesser
number carried by the sleepers sev-
rl of which will be attached

DANGEROUS COUNTERFEIT
in Circulation In This City.
Jose Ramirez was arrested Thursday
by Officer Splvey charged with at-
tempting to pass counterfeit money.
Ramirez It is alleged went into a
store on North Stanton street and of-
fered the proprietor a Bpurious Ameri-
can dollar in exchange for a purchase.
The fairness of the coin was suspected
and an officer called who looted Ra-
mirez up In the eity jail.
The prisoner was yesterday after--noon
transferred te the care of Sheriff
investigation be
fore U. S. Commissioner Howe up-
on a complaint which had been sworn
out by the complaining witness.
Ramirez was on trial at the last

JURY DISAGREED
Newt Matthews Did Not Receive a
Sentence For Murder Of Hunter.
The jury in the Newt Matthews
murder case reported that they could
not agree on a verdict after being out
almost twenty-four hours. This result
has been expected since last evening
and Matthews looked as if he was satis-
fied. The jury stood one for hanging
five for a term of years in the peniten-
tiary and six for acquittal.

William Heller of Silver City N. M.
was arrested Wednesday at tbe Santa
Fe depot by Chief Liockart and Officer
Soott upon a telegram from Sheriff
Blair oi Grant county charging him
with grand larceny.
It is said that Heller was being pur-
sued through the streets of Silver
City by the town marshal who want-
ed him upon a charge of drunk and
disorderly. He was not in such a
hurry however that he couldn't find
time to stop at a box car which was
used as sleeping quarters of a railroad
man and absorb bo it is alleged a
valuable gold watch which had been
left In the car.
The property Is valued at $50 and is
supposed to be lying in some of tbe
pawnshops of El Paso whe-e Heller is
thought to have disposed of it and a
search for it is being made by the
polioe.
Sheriff Blair will return with his
prisoner this evening and the latter
expresses himself as willing to go.
Cases Continued.
The witnesses In the cases against
the soldiers who were accused of com
pllcity in the murder of Offioer Newt
Stewart were placed under a $200
bond. The cases have been continued
until the October term of the court.

The cots which were bought for the
use of tbe teachers in case tbe accom-
modations of the city are taxed are now
being put in place at the city hall.
Bedding and pillows have also been
bougbtand by night there will be 75
beds in place in the different offices.

A building permit was today issued
to Alderman John Brunner for a re
sidence on N. Oregon street whioh will
