ator Edgar B. Witt of Wscft, and

Groesbeck, will be principal speak-
ers at the community program
held at the Kirk school house Sat-
urday night, October 6. it is an-
nounced by school officials. With
the speaking of the two mm, the
Texas Utilities quartet will give
several selections.
School opened at the Kirk school
Monday morning, with a geofi en-
rollment. The Kirk school is to
try for a 0 mcuwis term this year.
In the past tip school has gone

Prairie Hill home demonstration
club met at the scho l building
Wednesday uiternoon. Nine mem-
bers were present. Mrs. A. For-
rester spoke on advantage of us-
ing all white in making and dec-
orating household lines.
The club voted to havo a dis-
play window at Mexia October 29.
The club also voted to joii the
Bi-Stone Federation of chiba and
meet with them in Tongue.

GROESBECK, Oct. 2 (Sp)—
Close to 200 persons hive signed
to take gas from the Lone Star
Gas company In Groesbeck it is
announced by officials of the
Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce,
which organization is backing the
Lone Star in an attempt to get
a steady supply of gas in Groes-
beck by December 1. The gas
company has agreed to pip* gas
into Groesbeck if 250 customers
are found. It is expected the goal
will be reached at the end of this
week.
Work of installing the tipelines
will start when the euatoir.eis are
signed up, officials of thi gas
company have stated.

Jewelers association, including

Angelo, were reelected Tuesday at
the annual meeting of the associa-
tion.

tion contest filed by Paul Terry
against T. J. Hall, over t le nomi-
nation for the office of county
commissioner liecinct No. 1. Mr.
Hall, who was opposed by Paul
Terry, was nominated on the face
of the returns by a majority of
12 votes for a second term as com-
missioner. Terry filed a contest
alleging numerous irregularities in
the holding of the July primary.
This contest case has been reset
for the fourth week of the term,
being October 2i at which time it
is expected Judge Boyd will be able
to take over his bench.
Mrs. R. F. Babb, formerly ol
Mexia, driving from her home in
Abileno to Mexia was found uncon-
scious in her overturned automobile
on the highway near Hillsboro late
Monday, and is in a hospital ia
Hillsboro in a serious condition,
reports received in Mexia Tuesday
show.

Landowners to Need Recruits in

GROESBECK, Oct. 2 (Sp).—
All deeds have been prepared for
the owners of property along the
new X-All highway Iwtween the
Navasota river bridge ar.d the
Falls county line, and will be sign-
ed within a week, it is announced
by Lee Allen, county clerk, of
Limestone county. Field notes have
been prepared with the deeds for
the Texas Highway commitsion,
for presentation with the signed
deed at the gext meeting in Aus-
tin.
Approximately 100 owners are
expected to sign over the light of
way to the county, in order to ob-
tain state aid in topping the high-
way from the bridge to the coun-
ty line South of Kosse. Only two
owners, J. R.' Stroud ard J. L.
Brown of Groesbeck have signed
up to now, Allen said.

the Groesbeck Chambor of Com-

in this part of the country to test
all shallow sands, Reiter reported
above the Austin chalk. Kach for-
mation series, of which three will
be encountered, will be cored, and
an Edward's sand tester used. The
tester will be used on every sand
encountered, Reiter points out. The
hole will be !) 7-8 inches.
It is figured by the operators
that at least ten shallow sanda
