i M. KENNEDY
Kerrville, Texas, June 20.
Former Representative A. M.
Kennedy of McLennan county,
gave out the following statement
here today:
"Having served the people of
Texas as an official of the Deui"
oaratic party or member of the
legislature for the past twenty
years I felt it not immodest in
me to seek one of the places as
congressman at large when the
legislature, through no fault of
mine, failed to redistriet the
state. So last year when in Kerr
viLle I announced my candidacy
conditioned upon my health per-
mitting me to make an active
canvass. At thit time I. expect-
ed to make Kerrville my home
and rebuild my health, but un-
fontunately for mej I wa9 com-
pelled to return temporarily to
Mart. Texas, and did not get a
chance to come back here until
recently. As a result I am not
in as good physical condition a9
I was whm I leift here for Mart.
Therefore it is quite out of the
question for me to make a can-
vass of the state and to remain
in the race 'without doing so
would not do justice to either
myself or my friends. I cannot
give an individual answer to the
numerous letters received and
take this method of thanking my
friends for the support tendered
me. I am extremely proud of-
the volunm and the quality df
the same.' \
The reason that this announce-
ment has not been made sooner
is because I have delayed mak-
ing it from day 'to day, hoping
that in some way I could make
the race, but it is no use. The
V trouble which affects me -is ,1oo
exactiing.
LANE THE LIMIT
Prohibition Election Called In
This County.
In a ccordance with the electioi
laws, a prohibition election cfttt-
not be held sooner than two ye$r
after the last election was called.
This time restriction is not recog-
nized, however, by the people in
recommending Hunt's Lightning
Oil for Neuralgia, "Rheumafism'.
Headaches, etc. For thirty 4odd
years it has been acknowledged
to be the best. Sold everywhere
in 30c and 25c bottles.
Some weeks ago Tax Collector
J. A. Moore acquainted the Ga-
zette. editor with a sample of the
"shortness" and narrow-minded-
ness of our present Comptroller,
W. P. Lane. Mr. Moore mailed
tiis monthly report to Lane, and
lacked 2c of putting enough pos-
tage on the letter. Now, Mr.
Lane is a man of much "red
tape'' and a "stickler" for tech-
nicalities, so lie refused to pay
the "2c due" on the letter and
had it returned here for more
postage, delaying the report ten
days, but of course that was a
"little thing" compared to the
great saving this distinguished
apostle of economic government
and 'red tape" had made for
the state of Texas. The state
pays the Comptroller's postage,
and Mr. Moore by his failure to
put enough postage on his letter
was about to filch the state treas-
ury a.2c stamp. The state should
not be preyed upon by such de-
signing tax collectors? A great
thing for a high State official to
do—if you measure things by
the narrowest and most picayun-
ish standard it its possible for
the human mind to conceive of.
When we learned of Mr.
Lane's "shortness." we made up
ov r mind that he is not fit to
fill the office of Comptroller, or
any other position of trust where
brains and common sense are
needed, and we said then that wt
j,would scratch h;s name in the
primary even if he had no op-
ponent. Texas is a great State,
her people are broadminded and
liberal, and there is no place in
tile public service for a man as
little and,narrow-minded as Mr.
Lane * has demonstrated himself
fo be. Join us in "swatting"
him on the 27th of July.-—The
Sulphur Springs Gazette.

Of course you do. The man or woman
who has the responsibility of providing for
a family through the work of hands aud
brain can not be satisfied with the revenue
received from their toils unless it permits
the PUTTING AWAY OF A CERTAIN
SUM EACH WEEK OR MONTH as a
safeguard.against time, when through ac-
cident, sickness or infiirmity, that revenue
may be reduced or entirely cut off.
Putting away a few dollars each week
or month, however, is rather a slow way of'
building up a barrier against future needs
THE SAVINGS MUST BE PUT TO
WORK: THEY MUST BE EARNING
FOR YOU.
If YOU are able to save a little each
week or month from your earnings or in-
come, we want you to investigate what we
have to offer vou in Central Park.
Suppose you are saving only $5 a month.
If yon put it in Central Park
It Will be safe- for Land is inde-
structible.
It will be earning—for land val-
ues are increasing.
It will grow enormously—for
Houston is to be a mighty city. ,
If vou have kept posted on Houston's
growth during the past three years.- you
have seen value.- d mbU* and quadruple in
tha: time.
YOU KNOW Housf
today than ever before.
n is growing faster
YOU KNOW the reason for its great ex*
pansion in the direction of Central Park.
YOU KNOW thousands of people are to-
day living in homes in the Harrsiburg Road
district which did not exist three years ago.
YOU KNOW the Ship Channel is now
assured beyond the slighest doubt.
YOU KNOW Greater Houston will in a
short time have a new business center at the
head of deep water navigation.
KNOWING ALL THIS, you can not fail
to see the great opportunity which Central
Park opens to you for profitable investment.
Back your own sober judgment.
Put your money in Central Park
You'll never regret it.
