Members with 25 years of service to Links. Action was taken to send names of
1. Link Evelyn Aycock, 2. Link Mame Bundara and 3. Link Lucile Mitchell to
National Office.
Letter from Link Lou Nelle Sutton regarding alumna status. Action: Moved by Link
Vernis and seconded by Link Anna that we accept Link Lou Nelle on alumna status.
Motion carried.
AD HOC COMMITTEE REPORT - Link Vernis
Link Vernis gave the report on the status of the $300 scholarship in Memory of
Link Alma Inge and submitted the name of Toni Menefree as the scholarship recipient.
It was the consensus of the members present that the presentation be made the 4th
Sunday in April at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Members were asked to be pre-
sent and the President will make the presentation. Further arrangements will be made
by Link Vernis.
ARTS COMMITTEE REPORT - Link Brenda
Link Brenda reported that April 19 at 1:00 p.m., at Gates Elementary, the final work-
shop will be given - certificates will be presented - Link Jacque's son will provide
the music and help students with music composition - support is requested. Inter-
national Trends will be working with the Arts Committee on this project.
PROGRAMMING - Link Aaronetta
Linm Aaronetta reported that we should plan early - move faster under a true
umbrella project - mission of Links - how to develop a good umbrella project. Assign-
ments were given to members to make community contacts: Carver, YWCA, Boys' Club etc
to assess needs (volunteer or financial). At the May meeting a composite report wi'
ce available. Brochures from the Boys' Clubs were circulated to all members presen
Links Deborah and Jacque reported on their visit to the Carver. Reported that the
Carver's main focus is the "Caribbean Festival" in October. Link Deborah gave an
overview of the long-range planning of the Carver. She suggested that we might want
to participate in the opening session of the Caribbean Festival - serve as hosteses
or host the session - use personal PR to promote the program - this could be an in-
road into the continuing programming of the Carver. The Carver does plan to expand
and plans are in the making.
Link Lillian visited the YMCA - we will be getting a list of programs that we can
participate in - they have a captive audience and many long-term programs available.
button Homes - Links Joan and Barbara will make future contacts with Sutton Homes.
Links Vernis and Vertie - conference call from MLK - they want us to return to MLK.
There is a need for the girls. Science and PE teachers are good contacts.
Link Aaronetta - Texas Works Together (Under Umbrella of United Way). Sign up to work
with a welfare mother - mentor program for at least one year - monthly social mixers -
Specific needs: to get off welfare and gain employment - need 68 mentors and a com-
mitment of one year for 2 or 3 hours per week. Link Gloria is a member of the Board.
They need sponsors for seminars and provide refreshments. Links should consider
being a "broker" for other persons in the community.
FUNDRAISING - Link Aaronetta - See attached program design.
Link Aaronetta presented a design of the committee's report to have a fundraiser.
This would entail having a luncheon on June 2 with a presentation by Mrs. Louis
Sullivan, speaking as the wife of the Secretary of Health/Dr. Louis Sullivan.
Action: Moved by Link Carolyn and seconded by Link Barbara that we accept the
