My Sister Links,
Have I told you lately that I love you? If I have, forgive me if I repeat myself. I think you are the absolute
greatest and I do love each of you.
This issue of my Newsletter is devoted entirely to a complete report of the Capital Improvement Drive.
This fund raising effort spearheaded by Link Juanita Shell of Angel City Chapter has in these 14 months
produced $458,279.00 in pledges and $340,841.00 paid to date. The Central Area leads with $125,383.00
in pledges and $86,908.00 paid. The Western Area has pledged $119,520.00 but they have paid $97,345.00.
The Eastern Area is close behind with $114,128.00 pledges and $84,343.00 paid. The Southern Area is
gaining fast with $99,348.00 in pledges and $72,255.00 paid. These figures change daily for chapters
are paying pledges as I write. The entire staff at headquarters is busily counting, recording and
tabulating. We are preparing this special issue so that you can check to be sure that we have recorded
your contribution properly and so that if you haven't written your check you will be inspired to do so
now!
The names in this issue will appear in the Golden Book which will be displayed at the Assembly and
then become a part of our permanent collection in our new home. If you wish your name to be a part
of that volume your money must be received by May 15, 1984.
Now, let me tell you a little about Link Lynette Taylor, Chairperson of the Site Selection Committee. Her
energy, patience and enthusiasm are boundless! She has been in and out of so many buildings in the
greater Washington Area that I'm sure she's lost count. Link and Connecting Link Realtors are searching
and she looks at each building. When she finds one which is "within the realm of the possible" she
calls me and her committee. So far, we've "fallen in love" with three buildings-our love affairs have
even included proposals, but in each case, our tastes far exceeded our pocketbooks and we were
rejected. However, fear not, for we have learned to deal with rejection philosophically. There is a
building out there just waiting to be found and we will find it!
You know, there are few organizations like Links. You, (through the '82 Assembly) instructed us to go
out and purchase a building to house national headquarters. Although you gave us no funds, you told
us to devise our own plans. When we presented the plans more than 3,000 of you responded-through
your pledges and payments. The response is really remarkable because there are still so many unan-
swered questions-questions that we'll be able to answer only when we contract for a building. This
entire process could not have been done without faith, respect and commitment. Faith in each other,
respect for each other and commitment to Linkdom.
Gratefully,
