assault of Blackhawk helicopters by
1st Cavalry Division troopers were
observers from the -Helsinki group
that included Soviet officer obser-
vers. They appeared to be duly im-
pressed with the screaming U.S. Air
Force jets flying overhead and the
impressive Blackhawk helicopters
landing with their infantry.
Soldiers from all countries seemed
to be getting into the rhythm of the
play of the first week of the exercise.
E rg
gave the following suggestions for
saving energy.
Light bulbs are the easiest to moni-
tor. Turning them off when not in use
adds up to hundreds of dollars in sav-
ings. Retrofitting Watt-Miser larrips

On July 29 a 1st Cavalry Division
arms room was successfully pene-
trated by an individual who identi-
fied himself as Sgt. Green from the
Provost Marshal’s Office. On Sept.
13 an individual again identifying
himself as Sgt. Green attempted to
gain access to an arms room located
in the 2nd Armored Division. His
attempt failed when the unit armorer
asked Sgt. Green for his identifica-
tion. Sgt. Green departed the unit
and did not return.
Sgt. Green is not authorized to per-
form physical security inspections
and is not a member of the physical
security section at III Corps or any of
the other major commands on Fort
Hood
The person identifying himself as
Sgt. Green is described as a male

All the soldiers seemed to be un-
usually well disciplined when going
through towns and farm areas.
Additional reports indicate that
aneuver dam age is being ep
down to a record low. This is being
contributed to soldiers taking special
care and of the good weather being
experienced in the exercise area. The
weather is cool but clear.

and maintenance buildings.
Another way to save energy is by
setting your thermostat at a comfort-
able 78 degrees during the cooling
season and 65 degrees during the
heating season. If everybody raised
air conditioning temperatures by
lbs 5’8” to 6’0” tall reddish brown
hair who may or may not be wear-
ing a oustache. If an in-dividual
answering this description attempts
to gain access to your arms room de-
lay him as long as possible and im-
mediately notify the Fort Hood Milit-
ary Police at 287-2176. If Sgt. Green
leaves the area he should be fol-
lowed and an attempt made to obtain
a license plate number or destina-
tion. Personnel should also obtain a
complete physical description.
Whenever personnel who claim to
be from Physical Security arrive at a
unit to conduct a Physical Security
Inspection the unit armorer or Phy-
sical Security Officer will ask the in-
sp ec to for his id en tificatio or
credentials before allowing the in-
spector access to the arms room or
other sensitive areas.

Teamers will be busy turning in all of
their equipment and taking part in
interoperability training ith the
Dutch German and British Corps.
Flights of soldiers will start to ar-
rive at Fort Hood as early as Oct. 3.
When it is cool keep draperies and
shades open in sunny windows to
take advantage of the added heat
generated by the sun. Close them at
night.
Use the best insulation of all
warm clothing. A light long-sleeved
sweater adds almost two degrees in
warmth because the air between the
body and the clothing serves as in-
sulation to keep in body heat.

Air. conditioning to end Oct. 15
heat begins after two weeks
Sum er is slipping away. At Fort Hood that means air conditioning will
be going too. According to Em ent Gray chief environmental program
officer Directorate of Facilities Engineering the post air conditioning will
be turned off Oct. 15 but the post heating system will not be turned on until
Nov. 1.
“This is done for the purpose of conserving energy” Gray said. “For the
last three years it has been the same dates. The savings in energy and dollars
during these two weeks is very substantial.”
During this two week period temperatures are not usually extrem and
discomfort is minimal. A letter has been sent to all areas briefly explaining
the transition.
