Fort Hood is a large post and
information about locations
hours of operation and phone
numbers until recently was
scattered all over post.
NOW PEOPLE can get infor-
mation about almost anything
on post by calling one number
288-INFO according to Mary
Frances Rogerson supervisory
librarian Casey Library.
“People just arriving at Fort
ood often have questions
such as ‘How do I find hous-
ing?’ or ‘What are the hours of
operation for the commissary?’
We can give out many different

kinds of information like that”
Rogerson said.
Volunteers who answer the
information line make use of a
computer to find information
phone numbers and points of
contact according to Roger-
son. If the volunteer cannot
find the information requested
then the caller will be referred
to Rogerson.
PEOPLE CAN call the infor-
mation line anytime during lib-
rary hours to get the answers
they need. The hours are from
10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through
Thursday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Friday and Saturday and 1-9
p.m. on Sunday. After hours
calls will be recorded on an
answering machine and callers
can leave their name and num-
ber along with their question so
that someone can get back to
them during library hours
according to Rogerson.
This program was set up at
Casey Library according to
erso eca se eo le
often called the library for in-
formation anyway. “Now” she
said “people will get the infor-
mation line not necessarily the
library.”
However she said the infor-
mation line is not intended to
take the place of Fort Hood
operators whose job is to give
out phone numbers. Our job is
to help customers who have no
idea of the name of an activity
and thus cannot ask the oper-
ator for the number of a specific
activity. Also the 288-INFC)
line cannot be used as a post
locator as they won’t have that
information Rogerson said.
THE INFORMATION line
which is located in Casey Lib-
rary has been operational since
Aug. 27 according to Rogerson-
but she said that they haven’t
received as many calls as they
ad S said sh
assu ed that as ecau se
many people don’t know about
the line.

Rogerson said they need sev-
eral volu teers to man the
phones. “We need volunteers
for orning afternoon and
evening” Rogerson said.
“I would like to stress that if
anyone calls and gets informa-
tion that doesn’t work out they
should call back and let us
know so we can try to help
them.” 7

1. A lexander Hamilton (b.
Jan. 1775 d. Jul. 121804) was
well known as politician publi-
cist and the first Secretary of
the Treasury the nited
States. But what is not well
known is that Hamilton was
also a very capable military
leader. In 1776 he was commis-
sioned a captain in a provincial
artillery unit which fought in
the Battle of Trenton. Then in
1777 he rose to the rank of
lieutenant colonel and became
a member of General Washing-
ton’s staff. By 1789 Hamilton
had become the country’s first
Secretary of the Treasury. After
along and successful political
career Hamilton returned to
the practice of law and the writ-
ing of political commentaries.
In 1804 he died as a result of a
gunshot wound suffered in a
duel with the then vice presi-
ent th ited States
Aaron Burr.
2. On July 201944 there was
an attempt made to assassinate
Adolph Hitler. Col. Claus Vori
Stauffenberg a member of the
a a
intelligence unit known as the
Abwehr placed a suitcase
bomb under a table during a
high level meeting. The bomb
went off but Hitler was only
slightly injured.
