(Cont. from pg. Dl)
skills to sight read the music.
THESE TRIPS give local
musicians a chance to see what
it’s like to be an Army bands-
man. Usually when the band-
plays at a high school the band-
master is available to give audi-
tions to students who think
they might qualify to be a
bandsman.
“The Army is one of the very
few places for a serious musi-
cian to go” said the Bandmas-
ter. “For a person aspiring to
bigger things as a musician the
Army band is a good stepping
stone.”
The band isn’t limited to just
the off-post missions. They
play at several military cere-
monies as well. Some of the
events that you might find the
band at are change of command
ceremonies retreat ceremonies
and new family briefings.
Like every soldier in the
Army they also have another
job that they must always be
ready to perform. In time of
war the band must be ready to
perform as a soldier helping to
secure rear area defenses.
“It’s important to note that
the band members are soldiers
first” said Blake. “Bandsmen
must know every common task
that other soldiers know.”

Crime prevention:Larceniesofprivate
property are some of the most difficult cases to solve and the
easiest for the individual soldier to prevent. Mark all of your
valuable personal property with U.S.A. followed by your so-
cial security number. Record the serial number and descrip-
tion of these items on DA Form 4986 (Personal Property Re-
cord). With these two preventive measures the chances of
having your stolen property recovered are greatly enhanced.
For crime prevention information call 287-4873.
