Baby Dying On The
Mayor's Desk Brings
Hasty Investigation
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 21 (UP)
—The Beard of Public Welfare
in Minneapolis is meeting in
emergency session today to in-
vestigate charges that a city
hospital refused admission to a
baby with fatal results.
The child, Arthur Jensen, Jr.,
died on the desk of Mayor Hu-
bert Humphrey while the child's
parents were complaining about
treatment at the hospital.
According to the Jensens,
they were too poor to provide
private hospital care for the
child. They told Mayor Humph-
rey that they took the ailing
baby to Minneapolis General
Hospital, the city's one public
institution.
There, they said, a doctor
treated the child for a respira-
tory ailment and refused to ad-
mit him to the hospital. The
mother says she insisted the
child was too ill to go home, but
another doctor added that the
case wasn't serious. The par-
ents left.
Coroner Russell Heim says
the child died of severe bron-
chitis which plugged up the
windpipe. However, he says the
bronchitis apparently developed
suddenly. And he says he doesn't
think anyone at the hospital is
to blame.

Lone Star Has Ample
Gas For Any Weather
Lone Star Gas Company as-
sures its domestic consumers in
this trade zone that it will have
sufficient gas to supply all their
iuel needs no matter how cold
the weather, barring unforeseen
mechanical difficulties. This in-
formation was contained in a
prepared statement issued by of-
ficials following current govern-
ment recommendations for ra-
tioning and restrictions in the
use of natural gas and other fu-
els in some sections of the Uni-
ted States.
Lone Star, which serves this
territory and 332 other cities and
towns in Texas and Oklahoma,
points out that some of its large
industrial consumers may b«* cut
off temporarily at times to pro-
tect the gas supply for homes. |
"There is no shortage of gas I
as far as Lone Star Gas Com-
pany customers are concerned,"
the statement said. "We expect
to handle, barring pipe line
breaks or washouts by floods,
the fuel needs of homes on Lone
Star system, no matter how cold
the weather. Should there be
any instance of low pressure
areas, they would be extremely
isolated and result from unusual
shortages of material pver
which the company has no con-
trol.
