AIR YOUTH
SCHOLARSHIPS
Free scholarships totaling in value
$12,000 for boys showing "promise
of success in an aviation career"
will be offered in the second an-
nual scholarship competition spon-
sored by Air Youth of America, it
is announced by Major Lester D.
Gardner, chairman of the commit-
tee of awards, and executive vice
president of the Institute of the
Aeronautical Sciences.
Boys who have outstanding rec-
ords as builders of model airplanes,
or in some other youth activity re-
lated to aviation, and have gradu-
ated from high or prep school in
good standing, are eligible to enter
the competition. No fee or expendi-
ture of any kind is required to en-
ter the contest.
Top award in the Air Youth
competition is a two-year scholar-
ship, valued at $2500, with a pos-
sible cash allowance for living ex-
penses at the Boeing School of
Aeronautics at Oakland, California.
Other scholarships provide training
in aircraft mechanics, airlines
maintenance and engine mechanics
at recognized private schools on
the East and West Coasts, and in
Texas.
Application blanks and full de-
tails concerning the competition
may be obtained by addressing the
Scholarships Awards Committee,
Air Youth of America, 30 Rocke-
feller Plaza, New York, N. Y.
These scholarship awards are
part of new plans for the nation-
wide development of junior avia-
tion through a consolidation of the
two main groups in the field. Air
Youth of America has become a
division of the National Aeronautic
Association with headquarters in
Washington. The N.A.A. Academy
of Model Aeronautics continues as
a part of the Air Youth Division
and functions in the new set-up
substantially as in the past, fur-
nishing technical guidance and set-
ting rules for model airplane con-
tests and meets. A group of promi-
nent aviation and youth leaders
supervise the combined activ-
ity. Dr. James E. West, Chief Scout
Executive of the Boy Scouts of
America, has heartily endorsed the
consolidated program.
