Dr. McConnell chose as his sub-
ject: "Divine Sovereignty and Human

tention that God is a sovereign ruler

ger station and express office with
sheds beginning at the east line of
Cedar street and extending four hun-
dred feet west and granting said com-
pany the right to block Cedar street
when necessary with thqir passenger
trains while standing at the station at
Abilcno was passed on its second and
third reading v
Tho special committee appointed to
recommend an engineer reported that
it was not at present ready to make a
recommendation and requested the
council to meet -.in special session
Thursday morning at ninp. o'clock
when a report cwering thnt matter
would be submitted.
The matter of widening the side-
walks in Abilene was taken up and
discussed by the council and it was
the unanimous opinion of the council
that all of the sidewalks of the city
should be widened and the roadwajs
cut down. Action In the matter was
deferred until a city engineer is elect-

McALESTER Okla. Jan. 26. How-
ard "Murray deputy sheriff here was
yesterday afternoon shot by Clvin
MorrovTwhile he was trying to arrest
tho latter died at his homo early this
morning from his wounds. The shoot-
ing occurred at Adamson nnd the
wounded deputy sheriff was brought
hero for treatment.
When Murray attempted to arrest
Morrow the latter fired several shots
into his body. Murray fell but man
aged to flro one shot at Mo'rrow which
took effect In the head killing him in
stantly. Morrow had served ono term
in the penitentiary for impersonating
a federal ofllcor.

taxes upon the rolls of this city I
herewith submit my report' showing
the amount of taxes penalties and

I have given the matter vory close
attention and have endeavored to no-
tify every one owing either by letter
or through the press; a great many
as you will see have responded some
have not given the matter the atten-
tion they should have done. While I
know - it waB the intention of the
council that I should arrange these
taxes so that suit could be brought at
once I hoped that this could bo avoid-
ed and have succeeded quite well In
collecting a goodly portion of the tax-
es. At an early date I hope to have my
roport ready to turn over to the city
uttorney that he may file suit to en-
force theln collection. If there are
any who wish to avoid the expenses
of the court would ask that they call
before my roport is made.
