EDUCATION AND PROTECTION
. Two Vtal ThnB" t0 0o Considered by
Thoio Who Would Sua th
Qreatett Progreta and
Advancement.
Where Is found the greatest Ad-
vancomont and clvjlltation' thorn la
also fourid among tho pooplo tho high-
est typo 'of fealty and lovo of home.
Tho American (homes aro tho moat
substantial -pillars of tho nation's
greatness and In American oltlson-
tahlp la found tho bulwark of our re-
publican government.
Whero tho homo life la idoal thore
la found gcnulnb 'patriotism which la
always commensurate with tho cm-'
Ilghtonmcnt and tho domestic happi-
ness of tho peoplo. How important It
la then that ovory safeguard bo
thrown about tho homo which la tho
hotbed whoro aro produced for devel-
opment all tho strength that Is neces-
sary for tho perpetuation of a govern-
ment and the maintenance of a na-
tion's greatness.
Tho Btudent who will study into
conditions of tho countries that aro
continually wrecked by Internal tur-
moil such as BiiBSia and tho Contral
American republics will discover tho
homes are far from Ideal homes and
that thcro Is an absence of tho lovo
of country that should bo found In the
hearts of Its citizens. There Is a duty
that Involves upon all and which is
due to tho generations growing and to
come. Tho duty Is to surround tho
home with such environments as will
mako It attractive and develop In thr
growing youth tho highest qualities of
manhood and womanhood. Whero tho
peoplo aro oppressed by monarchy
and feudalism there Is no lncentivo to
develop the highest state of homo life.
In America whero all aro upon an
equal piano and opportunities aro
open to every citizen and whero tho
people aro secure In their rights to
homes thore Is every reason why
each one should mako the greatest en-
deavor to found for himself and his
progeny a residence place that will -be
sure from Intrusion and bo an In-
centive to higher mental and social
development.
Education Is all important and no
other country In tho world offers to
all such glorious advantages to re-
ceive enlightenment as does tho Unit-
ed States. It Is Important that tho
home be located near good schools.
Good schools are generally found
whero there are good homes and good
towns. Tho quality of citizenship of a
community can generally bo gaged by
the standard of its educational Insti-
tutions. It Is Important -to tho homo
builder that tho town wherein ho Ib lo-
cated or which ho may reside noar
be 9 progressive place. And tho bet-
tor that this town be the better will
bo Its educational facilities for the
youth. It Is essential to tho gro&test
good of a community that It bo real-
ized by all residing within It that tho
more wealthy It can be mado the
greater will be its advantages both as
to education and otherwise. By sup-
port to homo Institutions tho home Is
made better In every way. Patriotic
citizens will make It their first aim to
be loyal to their own home Interests
and then their state and nation. One
who Is loyal to homo is generally
faithful In the performance of all the
duties that good citizenship Implies.
Who Makec the Town 7
Tho editor of tho papor at Coylo
Okla. asks la largo totters "Who
makes the town?" To mako a town
requires the work of many people. It
Is surely not the man who oarns his
wages In the town and then spends
his earnings else whero; not tho farm-
er who sells hlB produce to tho homo
merchant and then takes the money
to the express or post ofllco and sends
It to tho Chicago mail order house
for tho goods ho needs; nor tho minis-
tur who Is paid for preaching by tho
busln.8b interests of tho placo and
spends his spare time In working up
grocery clubs for un outsldo roncorn.
No brother these men do not make
towns.
Gov. Folk on Home Trade.
"We ure proud of our splendid cities
and we want them to Increase In
wealth and population and we also
want our country town to grow. Wo
wish tho city merchants to build up
but wo also desire tho country mer
chants to prosper. 1 do not bollovo in '
tho mall .order citizen. If a place la
good enough for a man to llvo In and
make his meney In It is good enough
for him to spend his money n."
Misfits In Bongs-
"I'm going to see a new American
play tonight" she was saying. "It's
by an English author All tho b(st
American plays these days are written
by English authors)"

lish song that had a chorus about the

Allllna the Small Towns.
It ts Impossible to build up towns
without there being business to em-
ploy the people who reside In them
The mall order nystem of doing busi-
ness la killing off tho small town and
M a result the farmers residing near
them suffer by haylfg a poor market
tind poor schools and other blessings
of U)o kind that go with tho live town.
Not alone this but farm value are
