and operation of automobiles and
motor vehicles In the streets and
v highways of the City and assessing

ordinance entitled "An ordinance to
amend sections one and two of an
ordinance regulating the speod and
operation of automobiles and motor
vehicles in tho streets and highways
of the City assessing a penalty for
Its violation passed the 22nd day of
January 1907" passed tho 11th day
of September 190S; and carrying an
emergency.
Ba it ordained by the City Council
of the City of Abilene:
Sec 1. That hereafter all owners
of automobllesmotof vehicles and mo-
torcycles shall beforq using Buch vehi-
cles or machines upon the streets nl-apjs-
or- public highways within the
Gity of Abilene Texas register "Ills or
nor name with tho City Secretary of
the City of Abilene Texas which name
shall he registered by the City Secre-
tary In conBqcutlvo ordor In a book
Jsept for that purppso and the City
Secretary Bhall issue to such person
so registering his or hor name a num-
ber for such automobile motor vehicle
of motorcycle which number shall so

Secretary shall bo attachod to his or

torcyclo so as to bo plainly visible.

Sec. 2. That every nutomohllo or

on the front of said automobile or

Sec. 3. That every motorcycle or
bicycle operated or propelled upon the
streets alleys and highways of the
Jfiiy of Abilene shall bo' equipped
with one suitable lamp which shall be
kept burning while such motorcycle
or bicycle Is belng operated or pro
poned upon tne streets aiieyB anu
highways of said City at night between
sunset and sunrise.
Sec. 4. That it shall be unlawful
for any person to propel or cause to
be propelled any automobile motor
vehicle or motorcycle upon the streets
alleys and highways of the City of
Ablleno without tho number of said
vehicle attached thereto as provided
In Septlon 1 herepf.
Sec. 5. That It shall be unlawful
for any person to propel or cause to
be propelled any automobile motor
vehicle or motorcycle or blcyclo-wlthln
the following prescribed HmltB within
the City of Ablleno and on tho streets
hereinafter named in this section at
a greater ratq of speed than ten miles
per hour: On Pino street between
North Fifth and South First streots;
on Chestnut street between South
First and South Fourth streets; on
North First Btreot botweon "Walnut
and Hickory streets; on North Sec-
ond street botweon Walnut and Cedar
streots; oil North Third street be-
tween Walnut and Cedar 'streets; on
Cypress Btreot botwoen North First
and North Fourth streets ; on South
First Btreot uetweon Oak and Elm
streets; on South Second street be-
tween Oak and Elm streots; on South
Third street between Oak and Elm
streets; on Sycamore street between
South First and South Fourth Btreets;
on Oak streof betwoon South First
nnd South Fourth streets; on the Tox-
as & Pacific railway company's rlght-
of way between Walnut and Hickory
streets; on tho Texas & Pnelflc rail-
way Company's right-of-way between
Oak stroot and Elm stroot which snld
above defined limits shall bo known
na the "down town district."
Sec. 0. Thnt It shall be unlawful
fpr any person to propel or cause to

See. 7. Every automobile motor ve-
hicle or motorcycle onorntlng upon tho
streets nlloys and highways within the
City of Apllone shall bavo attachod
thereto a suitable bell horn or other
appliance for giving notice of Its ap-
proach so that when such bell horn
or appliance is operated it can bo
heard for a distance of three hundred
feet.
Sec S. That every vehicle men
tioned in the foregblng ordinance op-
erating upon tho streets and highways
of the City of Ablleno shall observe
the law of the road and keep on the
right hand side of said Btreets and
highways.
Sec 9. That an ordinance entitled
"An ordinance regulating the speed
and operation of automobiles and mo
tor vehicles in the streets and high-
ways of the City and assessing penal-
ties for its violations" passed January
22 1907 be and the same is hereby
repealed.
Sec. 10. That an ordinance entit-
led "An ordinance to amend Sections
1 nnd 2. of an ordinance regulating
the speed and operatloa of automobiles
and motor vehicles In tho streets and
highways of the City and assessing a
penalty for its violations passed the
22nd day of January 1907' passed the
11th day of September 1908 be and
the same is hereby repealed.
Sec. 11. That all ordinances and
parts of ordinances In conflict here-
with are hereby repealed.
Sec. 12. Any person violating tho
provisions of this ordinance shall bo
deemed guilty ot a misdemeanor and
upon conviction thereof In the Corpor-
ation Court of the City of Abllemo shall
bo fined In any sum not less than Five
nor more than One' Hundred Dollars.
Sec 13. That tills ordinance shall
bq operative and In effect from and af-
ter Its passage and publication ns pro-
vided by law.
