.Metropolitan XcnspnperTnlly Abreast
With Times in Equipment; Abilene
Tarty Mode Oulck Trip In
Cadillac Thirty.
San Angela "the little city" over on
-the two Conchos has had attractions
for tho writer for years but not until
Saturday has the opportunity to visit
Act limits been orforcd. LeavlnG Abl-
3cno at eleven o'clock In a Cadillac 30
with John It. Spauldlng driving A. H.
Herring Prof. C H. Lewis and the wrl-
ter as passengers wo had a most de-
lightful run to Pnlllnger which was
made In a little over twdioura.
At Balllngor wo had a nlco lunch
and woro leady tq continue tho trip.
Wo took tho Paint Rock road and went
ont on It Some M miles turning across
tho country and getting back to tho
.Angelo road at .Miles a thriving little
town where the Point Rock railroad
Intersects the Santa Fe. The run this
-way from AlnlcnO to Angelo is some
512 miles and some of the greatest
country on earth Is along the route.
Itoachlng Angelo after tho 112 miles
having never stopped one minute for
repairs or oven to crank the car we
look a drive over tho city visiting tho
old fort and various other points of
interest. The object of our trip being
that Prof. Lewis might examine a pipe
organ we soon found ourselves at the
Itfrst Persbytorlan church' where we
Tvero shown every kindness by the
Pastor's fanilly and other members.
"Wo found pleasant rooms at Tho Lanr
ion Hotel. Having an uncontrollable
longing for printing offlces our writer
soon manipulated things so as to land
the crowd at the splendidly equipped
.office of the San Angelo Standard.
"Hero wo were given a royal welcome
4y two of th proprietors Messrs. Tup-
"-per aiid Jones. Wo were shown
through the office from top to bottom
and the many courtesies were' greatly
appreciated. The Standard is really a
moving proposition and Is a revela-
tion as" to what can be done in a good
live town where the citizens co-opernto
-with the publishers. The Standard
" "has a perfecting press which prints
CftDO papers per hour 4JUnotye" ma-
chines and other things in keeping
-with theso two metropolitan equip-
ments Angelo Is a good town and hgr
-water supply Is simply Immense. Her
nhurch buildings aie modern and in
keeping with tho progress of the times i
and best of all tho Angelo people are
cordial and mafcc strangers feel at
home. The Santa Fe and Orient rail-
roads are doing a great amount of im-
' jrovement in Angelo. Both of the
roads are building out of the city the
Santa Fe to Sterling City and tho Ori-
ent south west to Mexico. One thing
that especially impressed us was the
enterprise the banks of tho city have
Bhown in their beautiful buildings and
thus setting the pace for better busi-
ness houses than would have been built
otherwise.
After spending Sunday morning by
attending the First Baptist church
Sunday school preaching at tho First
Presbyterian church and having our
lunch nt The Lnndon wo left Angelo
at two o'clock for Abilene by the way
of Balllnger and made the run of QG
miles in threo hours and fifty mlnut.es
Without a minutes stop except at Bal-
llnger where we woie detained to "let
a funeral procession pass Tho trip was
one of pleasure from start to finish
and Bllows what can be done In the
modern way the auto way.

FLIGHT OK BIRDS.
Rapid Wing Movement Does Not Al

speed in flight any uioro than rapid
leg movement Implies speed. In walk-

length of tho strldo that tells ultimate-

tells in the bird's flight Is not known.
Speaking broadly long winged birds
are strong and swift fliers; short
winged birds are feeble in flight.
When wo consider that a cumbrous
