NEW YORK May 26. The American Woolen Company of
New York the American Woolen Company of Massachusetts and
William Wood president of both companies were charged with
profiteering in woolen cloth in an indictment returned today by the
federal grand jury.
The indictment contained fourteen count charging 14 indi-
vidual violation of the Lever Act in the lale of cloth at unjust and
unreasonable price.
It followed an investigation by the department of justice made
at the request of Preiident Wood of the company according to
Herbert C Smythe pccial assistant to the United State district
attorney. Mr. Smythe said the investigation showed the American
Woolen Company controls 21 per cent of the output of woolen cloth
in the country and that its prkss are followed virtually by the en-
tire trade.
