"JUST A MOMENT PLEASE"
I wont to ay t few words to
truck owners.
I especially want to speak to
owners of Wichita trucks.
Every one of us is a believer in
good roads.
We know that good roads are a
splendid investment for the peo-
ple to make.
But we shouldn't lose sight of
the fact that good roads are paid
for by all the people.
Truck owners can co-operate
with all the people in the keeping
of good roads good.
On general principles this
would be a wise thing to do for
the selfish man never gets very
far in worth while things.
The good respect of our neigh-
bors is a worth while thing.
And right down to a brass tacks
proposition truck owners should
exert every endeavor to keep good
ton As good.
This co-operation can be given
by truck owners in two ways.
One way is not to overload
your truck.
The other way is not to over
speed your truck.
If you have a fleet of trucks it
will profit you to occasionally
take measures to see that your in-
structions on these two things are
lived up to.
Motor trucks are tire equipped
to sustain loads not to exceed a
given number of pounds.
To place more weight on these
tires than they are intended to
carry means that you are demand-
in? that good roads do things they
were never intended to do.
Don't permit your truck to be
overloaded.
Overloading is not only bad for
roads it is bad mighty bad for
the truck.
Ovcrspeedinj? your truck will
do more damage to roads and
rrorr dmae to your truck .than
even overloading will.
The .rrc force that smashes
Tord re-id lo destruction also
hrirjrs alvMii an early ending of
the usefulnrss of your motcr
truck.
Motor trucks ore not pleasure
cars.
Motor IrncW are not intended
to h3! speed records.
Motor trucks are bearers of
burdens and should not be expect-
ed to carry great weights at rapid
speeds for this they are not built
to do.
Isn't it much better that motor
truck owners cure these faults
themselves rather than have laws
enacted to cure them?
Overloading of trucks and over
speeding of motor trucks breed
legislative action just as certain
as night follows day.
Thit which works us ill wc
should seek to avoid.
That which caues our neigh-
bors to comment unfavorably es-
pecially when the basis of their
comment is absolutely sound
should not be indulged in.
I know motor trurks. I have
bfen building Wichita trucks for
nearly tm years. r'
I know that even as good a
trucU a n Wichita Truck if it i
overloaded and overspeeded will
not give returns that ought to be
hd on the investment such a
trurk represents.
Thi is iust a nart of the storv.
A motor truck owner can do
!10 000 worth of damage to a
hirhwav with $2fl00 or $3W
ruck. rd do it mitrhty qu'kly
bv overloading ond over speeding.
I want to sec every one who has
need of a motor truck use a Wich-
ita truck.
With more miles of good high
ways in the Southwest than we
now have this end will be more
quickly brought about.
But this appeal is not entirely
selfish.
Good roads are mighty fine
things for communities for coun-
ties and for states to have.
Good things should not be de-
stroyed. Overloading and overspeedin?
motor trucks destroys good roads
if persisted in.
Don't overload.
Don't overspeed.
Wichita truck owners know
their trucks can carry over loads
and can go at speeds in excess of
wh?t good judgment indicates
should be the case but I want
them to know also that overload-
ing and overspeeding shortens the
lives of their Wichita trucks.
Let's co-operate with our city
our county and our state; first to
secure good roads and then to
keep good roads good.
J. G. CULBERTSON President
Wichita Motors Company
Wichita Falls Texas.
