WHY CO TO OLD MEXICO
Since the inauguration of General Obrejon
it president of the Southern Republic many
thoughts regarding Old Mexico have leen occu-
pying the minds of Americans. Just at this time
there are numerous agencies telling lurid stories
of those scenes to which distance lends enchant-
ment. Coulped with this is the urge ever present
in the American blood for newer fields adven-
ture and achievements. The inescapable results
of this combination will be manifested in an "ex-
odus" of Americans and disappointment for ap-
proximately ninety per cent of them following
their ventures across the Rio Grande River.
J Does it not seem strange is it not most re-
markable that foolhardiness should be so amply
evidenced in the action of people of ordinarily
good intelligence? Right here in the Plains Coun
try of Texas there are thousands and thousand'
oi acres of indescribably rich fertile and produc
tiye. lands and so cheaply priced that they may.be
bought with an initial payment of no greater
sum than is necessary to pay the transportation
to Old Mexico.
' Texas Plains Country areas are ready for the
plow; and the atmospheric and climatic conditions
are such as to render the territory free from many
of the diseases common in Old Mexico. In addition
to this the people of the Plains Country of Texas
are American a fact carrying with it a presuppo-
sition of congenial social life coupled with facil-
ities for enjoyment such as cannot be known t
the picseer in any new or partially developed
country.
Residence in Old Mexico by Americans must
for a long time at least carry with it the com-
plications of a foreigner dwelling among a strange
people. Let us receive the very best treatment
of which we dream at the hands of Mexicans un-
der the leadership of President Obregon it wil
not and cannot be "home 'and Americans will
find themselves under the necessity of "adjust-
ing themselves' 'to strange ways laws associates
and environments.
' Then will begin the return of disgruntled
ones those who admit that they should have
"known better" and these will seek out locations
la. America the most of them in Texas wiser
older and less well fortified financially than when
with high hopes they crossed the southern border
and into the fabled glories of a strange land
glories tht did not materialize. In view of thi
certain this inescapable result cood. common
sense must dictate the course of wisdom: P.uy
Texas Flams Country lands and make homes
here America for Americans. '
If there are those who do not care to occupy
the best country in all the world the delightful.
altitudinous ozone-bathed zephyr-glorified Tex
as Plains they will find other sections in the
Lone Star state waiting for them with inducements
surpassing the most seductive offers old Mexico
could possibly make. Texas has home-spaces for
added millions of people and the prices are the
lowest to be found in the world while the environ
meet every demand and the neighbors have meas
ured up to the most exalted standards of loyalty
to every principle of Amrncam-m
"What then is the incentive for this suggete
movement into old Mexico? Love of adventure
. a change vof scene new surrondings! None of
these are real reasons for overlooking the fact
that Texas has it!" None of these will cause
would-be American-Mexican citizens to forgive
themselves the error of crossing the southern bor-
. ber seeking attractions as chimerical and elusive
as the pot-of-gold-dream. at the rainbow's end!
Texas lands Texas climate Texas history. Texas
crops Texas possibilities Texas people are all
real and they never disappoint.
